Civil / Structural Designer

Technical Solutions Inc. is currently seeking a Structural Designer for our client in the Pittsburgh area.Summary Create and establish designs in accordance with customer specifications, industry standards, existing designs and company standards. Utilize existing drawings sketches, 3D models, prototypes or verbal instruction for new and existing designs. Provide technical oversight of other members of design department. Leads the technical design effort that may include up to three designers or drafters. Apply industry-standard drafting techniques to generate and interpret drawings in support of assigned projects and provide guidance and leadership to drafters to ensure that all established Company and client design standards and practices are followedDuties and Responsibilities-Review the scope of work for assigned projects and lead the civil / structural design tasks for the project.-Perform preliminary and advanced work in developing working layouts and final drawing deliverables for foundations, concrete structures, structural steel, masonry and wood (plans, elevations sections and details).-Check design drawings and specifications including layout, form, fit, function, materials, specification callouts, geometric, dimensioning and other output.-Interact with vendors, customers and other departments to obtain design parameters and to coordinate designs.-Participate in engineering and general design reviews as required.-Estimate drafting hours for civil / structural scope of services for proposals.-Mentor / supervise other designers and drafters.-Keep supervisor advised of work status, work load, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.Education / Experience Requirements-Associate's degree in CAD, drafting or related field and 15 years of experience -Experience with heavy industrial projects including Steel Mills, Chemical Plants, Material Handling, and Oil & Gas processing facilities-Previous experience working in a 3D CAD environment required-Previous experience with AutoCAD, Advanced Steel, Plant3D, and / or Revit strongly preferred-Previous experience with Navisworks Manage-General computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Bluebeam)-Previous experience directing the daily activities of other designers preferredQualifications-Strong interpersonal and communication skills-Able to read and interpret documents such as customer reports, specifications and government standards.-Able to write routine reports and correspondence.-Able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.-Able to calculate component and assembly weight, area, volume and circumference.-Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.-Ability to pass drug test.Technical Solutions Inc. provides a wide range of staffing services throughout Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
