POSITION SUMMARY:
We are in search of an enthusiastic and driven summer intern to drive projects that will enhance the efficiency of our work cells via automation and robotics at our plant in Mansfield, OH. The Automation Engineering Intern will develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of robotics, automation, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands on experiences in manufacturing processes and making an impact on the effectiveness & efficiencies of those processes.
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS, JOB DUTIES, & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop, evaluate, improve and document automated manufacturing processes, with emphasis on standardized work.
- Design and develop automated manufacturing processes that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost.
- Provide support to the Automation and Manufacturing Engineers for the design, fabrication and commissioning of specialty equipment.
- As it pertains to automation projects, analyze and plan factors such as work force utilization, space requirements, process workflow, equipment layout, and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Develop and implement process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments.
- Estimates production times and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Provide engineering support in production department to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to automated manufacturing processes, equipment, and tooling.
- Applies statistical methods including Design of Experiments to estimate future manufacturing requirements, improvements and potential. Employ problem solving techniques, such as 8D and other root cause analysis techniques.
- Develop, evaluate and improve documentation for specialty equipment and processes, with the use of MS Office products and SolidWorks.
- Complete any special projects as assigned by supervisor/manager.

Qualifications

Must be currently attending an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Engineering field.

Previous internship or other organizational experience that relates to automation, robotics, data analytics, or similar fields.

Previous experience in a manufacturing company is a plus.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present information to management & other internal customers.

Skills and experience in using relevant software & technologies such as CAD and PLCs

Ability to grasp both dated and modern technologies.

Proactive and results-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to drive projects forward and meet objectives. Self-starter who is eager to research, learn, and keep themselves accountable to their projects.

Must be able to communicate progress & when help is needed.
