POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Technology is responsible for leading and managing the district’s technology infrastructure, policies, and services to support student learning, administrative operations, and future growth. This role oversees the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all technology systems, including data collection, processing, reporting, and network infrastructure. Additionally, the Director collaborates with district leadership to align technology initiatives with educational and operational goals, ensuring seamless integration across schools and departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience in technology management, including supervisory experience.
- Industry certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, PMP, Google Certified Administrator) are preferred.

- Strong leadership in developing and sharing vision, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Ability to anticipate trends in educational technology and lead effective change.
- Experience in budget planning, resource allocation, and cost-effective technology implementation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Leadership & Strategy
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Information Technology (IT) department staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, and accountability.
- Develop and implement long-term technology plans in collaboration with district leadership, ensuring alignment with educational and operational goals while addressing evolving technology needs.
- Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for technology integration in classrooms, professional development for staff, and operational efficiencies across all district departments.
- Engage district leaders, school administrators, educators, and end users in decision-making processes to ensure that technology solutions effectively support teaching, learning, and operational needs.
- Promote a customer service-oriented culture within the IT department, ensuring responsive, efficient, and user-friendly support for all district staff and students.
- Encourage and support teamwork within the IT department, fostering collaboration, shared problem-solving, and a positive work environment that enhances service delivery and innovation.
Technology Infrastructure & Support
- Oversee district-wide network management, cybersecurity, and IT service delivery.
- Manage technology budgets and procurement, ensuring cost-effective solutions.
- Direct the evaluation, acquisition, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems.
- Ensure the security and integrity of district data and technology infrastructure.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to make data-driven recommendations that enhance district-wide technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital learning experiences.
Collaboration & Training
- Work closely with district and school administrators to assess technology needs.
- Provide training and support for staff, fostering digital literacy and effective technology use.
- Facilitate the Mentors in Technology program to support staff development.
Facilities & Operations
- Coordinate technology integration in new construction and renovation projects.
- Oversee daily IT operations, ensuring responsive and effective technical support.
- Develop and maintain documentation for network configurations and district technology policies.
Budget and Resources
- Develop and manage the district’s IT budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources for technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, hardware, software, and instructional technology.
- Collaborate with district leadership to forecast technology expenses, assess cost-saving opportunities, and ensure financial sustainability of IT projects.
- Oversee procurement processes, ensuring cost-effective purchasing, contract negotiation, and lifecycle management for IT assets.

- Provide financial reporting on technology spending, funding utilization, and return on investment to school board members and district stakeholders.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to technology, data privacy, and accessibility.
- Oversee the district’s E-Rate program, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations and maximizing funding for eligible technology and network infrastructure projects.
- Manage the E-Rate application process, including Form 470, Form 471, and Form 486, in coordination with finance and procurement teams.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) audits and compliance reviews.
- Work with vendors and service providers to secure cost-effective, E-Rate-compliant contracts for internet access, network infrastructure, and telecommunications services.
- Stay informed on E-Rate policy updates, Category One and Category Two funding, and federal technology funding opportunities.
Other
- Attend relevant committee meetings, state-level conferences, and industry events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or district leadership.
