Primary Purpose:
Install, test, and maintain the district’s hardware, mobile devices, software, and related equipment. HISD Technician will assist in the evaluation and maintenance of District technologies. He/she will diagnose and resolve technical problems, provide level one support to district staff and the network operations team and will assist in the implementation and maintenance of end user equipment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Associate’s degree in computer science or management information systems, or equivalent on the job experience. Valid driver’s license w/acceptable driving record required.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of LAN and WAN network design and installation
Knowledge of hardware and software applications including servers, printers, and other equipment
Ability to work with multiple operating systems and network protocols
Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems and learn complex technologies quickly
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Minimum (3) three years' experience in technological support services; technology experience in an educational setting preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Technical Support
1. Install and test hardware, software, and upgrades, and identify and resolve issues. Implement and maintain system configurations and perform system maintenance.
2. Working knowledge and ability to configure and support Microsoft/Windows, Chromebook, Android, and Apple/iOS hardware and software.
3. Monitor and analyze system utilization; recommend improvements as needed.
4. Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment.
5. Diagnose and repair hardware issues.
Other Principal Activities
6. Work with software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support.
7. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
8. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws and regulations and local board policy.
9. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
10. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
11. Provide technical assistance and support for incoming queries and issues related to computer systems, software, and hardware (help desk).
12. Manage district mobile devices, including software distribution, device configuration, and maintenance/troubleshooting (JAMF and iVanti).
13. Provide support for campus implementation of public information, such as marquees and public address systems.
14. Packaging and scripting of software for distribution to all district devices.
15. Maintain database of software for self-service distribution.
16. Install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair new and existing LAN components.
17. Assist in district's security operations, such as technical implementation of entrance/exit schedules, badge access, user assignments, etc.
18. Shipping, receiving, and inventory of district equipment.
19. Maintain and manage operation of district's technology store/warehouse.
20. Installation, configuration, troubleshooting, repair, and upgrades of applicable servers.
21. Ensure untested models of equipment are compatible with network and district policy.
22. Provide network information regarding equipment such as printer configuration.
23. Provide support for meetings, including set-up and configuration of technology equipment.
24. Properly destroy sensitive staff and student data when replacing storage mediums.
25. Visit all schools for the purpose of inventory and site planning.
26. Make recommendations for the phasing out and/or replacement of all technologies.
27. Maintain knowledge of the service requirements, techniques of repair, changes in engineering and parts, manuals and publications of technologies in the district.
28. Assist in evaluating software compatibility for future hardware implementations.
29. Deliver new or used equipment to remote sites and campuses as required.
30. Provide on-going technical training and support to instructional staff.
31. Assist in setup and configurations for staff development classes provided by the District.
32. Assist in the upgrade and maintenance of all telecommunications systems.
33. Performs other job related duties as may be assigned by the Director or designee.

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders
Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)
Environment: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; willingness to work overtime and flexible scheduling hours on a routine and frequent basis; frequent districtwide travel; may be exposed to electrical hazards.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; emotional control under stress
