Techstra Solutions is looking for an experienced Mainframe Modernization Architect to lead the end-to-end migration and transformation of mainframe applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role requires deep technical expertise in mainframe systems (COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, IMS, VSAM, etc.) and hands-on experience in cloud-native architectures. The architect will define the modernization strategy, develop best practices, and guide engineering teams in executing a seamless transition to GCP services like Compute Engine, Cloud Spanner, BigQuery, Anthos, and Kubernetes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop modernization roadmaps, migration strategies, and architectural blueprints for mainframe-to-GCP transformation.
- Assess legacy mainframe applications, databases, and infrastructure to identify optimal modernization approaches: rehosting, re-platforming, refactoring, or rearchitecting.
- Design scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud-native solutions leveraging GCP Compute Engine, Kubernetes (GKE/Anthos), Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and Cloud Spanner.
- Lead the re-architecture of monolithic applications into microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
- Oversee data migration from mainframe databases (DB2, IMS, VSAM) to GCP storage solutions (Spanner, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL).
- Provide architectural guidance on containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), API integration, and DevOps automation (Terraform, Jenkins, GitOps).
- Work closely with business stakeholders, developers, and cloud engineers to ensure alignment with modernization goals.
- Establish best practices for security, scalability, performance optimization, and cost management in GCP.
- Guide teams through proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives and develop reusable frameworks for migration.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, governance policies, and regulatory requirements during cloud adoption.
- 10 years of experience in IT architecture, including 5 years in mainframe modernization or cloud migration projects.
- Strong expertise in mainframe technologies (COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS, VSAM, CICS, TSO).
- Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and hands-on experience with Compute Engine, Kubernetes (GKE/Anthos), BigQuery, Cloud Spanner, and Pub/Sub.
- Proven experience in modernizing monolithic applications into microservices and API-driven architectures.
- Experience with cloud migration tools like Google Migrate for Compute Engine (GMCE) and Migrate for Anthos.
- Strong background in database modernization (DB2/IMS to Cloud Spanner, PostgreSQL, or BigQuery).
- Hands-on experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager, Jenkins, GitOps).
- Knowledge of networking, security, identity management, and compliance best practices in GCP.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- GCP certifications (Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Data Engineer).
- Knowledge of AI/ML integration for legacy systems modernization.
- Experience in performance tuning, workload optimization, and FinOps for GCP.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud strategies (Anthos, OpenShift).
