Job Title: Cost Engineer for Nuclear Power Plant
Job Location: Wilmington, NC
Duration : 6 Months Contract
Job Summary: The Cost Engineer will be responsible for cost estimation, analysis, and optimization of Engineering Procurement Systems (EPS) related components used in nuclear power plants, including auxiliary systems and balance of plant (BOP). This role requires expertise in cost modeling, supplier benchmarking, and engineering analysis to ensure cost-effectiveness, competitiveness, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain should-cost models for auxiliary systems, and BOP in nuclear power plants.
- Analyze manufacturing processes, material costs, and labor costs to establish accurate cost estimates.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and supply chain teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Perform supplier cost benchmarking, negotiations, and value engineering initiatives.
- Support design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturing initiatives by working closely with design teams.
- Conduct market analysis to understand industry trends, cost drivers, and supplier capabilities.
- Provide cost breakdown analysis and risk assessments to facilitate strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with nuclear industry standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Assist in contract negotiations by providing technical cost insights and recommendations.
- Prepare reports and presentations on cost analysis findings and recommendations for management.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost engineering, procurement, or related roles within the energy or nuclear sector.
- Strong understanding of transformers, switchgear, cabling, power distribution systems, motor control centers and commodities like Forging, casting, Heavy fabrication, sheet-metal etc.
- Experience in working should cost model with Built to specification.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and cost structures relevant to nuclear power plant equipment.
- Proficiency in cost estimation tools, data analysis, and spreadsheet modeling.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as ASME, IEEE, NRC regulations, and nuclear safety requirements.
- Experience working with suppliers and performing supplier cost analysis.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in nuclear power plant EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects.
- Familiarity with cost simulation software like aPriori, Costimator, SEER etc., and advanced cost modeling techniques.
- Certification in cost estimation or project management (e.g., AACE, PMP, Six Sigma).
