HOW YOU’LL HELP DRIVE THE FUTURE OF NATURAL GAS:
At Peoples Gas System, we are seeking a committed and innovative Director of Safety Management Systems to lead our Safety team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the vision, mission, and goals of the corporation are realized collaboratively and effectively, with a focus on standardizing safety and compliance programs across the PGS system. This senior leader will oversee the development and administration of the company’s Safety Management Systems in alignment with both Emera’s directives and the American Petroleum Institute’s Recommended Practice 1173. Responsibilities include risk management, quality assurance, and all other elements integral to the PGS Safety Management System. Additionally, this role encompasses the development of safety programs for team members and contractor safety management.

What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related subject from an accredited college.
- 10 years of related experience involving operations, safety, environmental, compliance or engineering. Experience must include a minimum of 4 years performing similar duties and responsibilities of this role.
- 4 years of leadership experience.
- Safety certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (e.g., CHST, OHST, ASP, CSP) or equivalent safety certification.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, and excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills; Ability to successfully collaborate across multiple layers and departments within the organization; Demonstrated track record of progressive performance results and specific strengths in strategic thinking, large program development, and effectiveness in managing and overseeing complex initiatives.
- Master’s Degree in Business or related field from an accredited college.
- Gas LDC utility experience in safety or operations.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
- Deals regularly with senior leaders in the PGS Engineering and Operations organization, Tampa Electric and Emera and requires participation in decision-making meetings on a regular basis.
- Customers, government and/or regulatory agencies, consultants (attorneys, advisors, etc.), contractors, industry associations, vendors, and business partners
