Job Summary: The Senior Data Engineer will help with developing and supporting our analytics infrastructure and reporting processes to meet the information needs of Tecomet. This is a key position that ensures our data is precise, available, and actionable, empowering the organization to make informed decisions quickly. The Senior Data Engineer will need to proficiently employ the skills required for both development and analysis to effectively implement a range of business intelligence strategies and tools. The Senior Data Engineer possess advanced technical knowledge, excellent communication abilities, and a willingness to support Business Intelligence requirements throughout the entire data ecosystem. This role will have responsibilities ranging from business Intelligence project planning and strategy, configuring source connections and APIs, overseeing data warehouse requirements, manipulating data using SQL queries and ETL tools, creating standardized Power BI data models and datasets, and providing end-user support. The ideal candidate will have experience working with ERP systems and other business-critical data sources to ensure seamless data integration, transformation, and availability for analytics. This is a fully remote opportunity. Must be based out of one of the following states. AK, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Data Modeling & Dataset Development: Develop and maintain complex data models using SQL and related technologies to structure large datasets and create seamless reporting solutions. Collaborate with subject matter experts from the business to source, clean, and transform data from various systems such as databases, SaaS applications, and spreadsheets, into the data warehouse and ultimately to end-user reports. Optimize, enhance, and maintain data warehouses for performance and scalability. Tasks may include database tuning and monitoring load performance. Optimize data models for performance, ensuring reports and dashboards run efficiently even with large datasets. Ensure that the BI infrastructure is secure, and that data is protected from unauthorized access and meets external and internal privacy requirements. Create and maintain Business Intelligence documentation and data dictionary. Power BI Development: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of interactive Power BI reports and dashboards to meet business needs. Analyze and reverse engineer existing solutions when required and re-develop using industry-standard best practices. Create and optimize Power BI datasets by integrating multiple data sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reliability of the data. Build advanced Power BI visualizations, including KPI indicators, charts, graphs, and tables, to effectively communicate insights. Collaboration & Support: Serve as a technology liaison and provide expert evaluation regarding potential external data tools and applications for consideration. Serve as a subject matter expert in data analytics, providing guidance and best practices to internal teams and end-users. Assist in the development of training materials and deliver training sessions to empower business users to utilize Power BI for self-service analytics. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed on data technology trends and provide recommendations for future actions. Continuously evaluate and improve reporting processes, ensuring data integrity and enhancing user experience. Assist in implementing automation for recurring reports to improve operational efficiency. Educational/Training Requirement/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a strong focus on Data Warehousing and Power BI report development. Experience with integrating Power BI with various data sources (SQL Server, Excel, cloud-based databases, APIs, etc.). Hands-on experience with requirements gathering, system testing, and documentation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong background in data modeling, dataset development, and data transformation techniques. Strong knowledge of SQL for querying and extracting data from relational databases. Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings clearly. Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools, such as Jira, GitHub, and Power BI development pipelines. Experience developing with Power Automate, PowerApps, dbt, and python. Working knowledge of manufacturing ERP and quality systems Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
