Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Lead Digital Fabricator at Tecture located in San Diego, CA. The Lead Digital Fabricator will be responsible for day-to-day tasks such as preparing files for fabrication, operating machinery, quality control, and collaborating with designers to bring projects to life. They are responsible for overseeing and managing the Assistant Digital Fabricator. Tecture currently operates a 5x10 Shop Sabre CNC Router with Laser Head and a 5x10 Bodor Fiber Laser.
Key Responsibilities
- Creating 3D models in CAD software - Rhino - based on design specifications
- Preparing 3D models for fabrication by optimizing geometry and adding necessary features
- Generating CNC toolpaths for milling or laser cutting operations
- Operating and maintaining various CNC machines
- Setting up and adjusting machine parameters like feed rates, cutting speeds, and material settings
- Performing quality checks on fabricated parts to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Choosing appropriate materials based on project requirements and machine capabilities
- Properly preparing materials for fabrication, including cutting, cleaning and surface finishing
- Working closely with design and technical design teams to understand project goals and translate them into physical prototypes or production parts
- Communicating fabrication limitations and potential challenges to the design and technical design teams
