Position Summary:
We are seeking a Legal Counsel Account Manager - Toxic Tort to oversee and manage complex toxic tort, environmental, asbestos, and latent claims. This role involves analyzing insurance coverage, coordinating with defense counsel, and driving claims resolution strategies while ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in toxic tort litigation, insurance law, and property and casualty claims management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate, analyze, and assess newly reported toxic tort and environmental claims.
- Collaborate with policy search teams to locate and validate coverage documentation.
- Strategically position claims under applicable primary, umbrella, and excess liability coverage.
- Oversee defense counsel retention and develop litigation strategies in partnership with insured parties, legal teams, and insurance carriers.
- Drive case resolution by actively engaging in mediations, settlement negotiations, and litigation strategies within assigned authority limits.
- Coordinate with reinsurers by providing updates on new and existing claims, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Work closely with in-house legal teams and claims management to develop and implement resolution strategies for declaratory judgment actions.
- Establish and maintain appropriate claim reserves in accordance with industry best practices.
- Ensure efficient processing of claim payments and settlements, including proper allocation across multiple policies.
- Oversee allocated loss adjustment expenses (ALAE), ensuring cost-effective claims management.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive claim documentation per regulatory and internal guidelines.
- Obtain and maintain necessary adjuster licenses as required.
- Travel as needed for case management, mediations, and client engagement.

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex legal and insurance issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise reporting.
- Strong negotiation and litigation strategy experience within toxic tort and environmental claims.
- Ability to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and respond proactively to case developments.
- Expertise in claims handling, insurance coverage analysis, and legal risk assessment.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain compliance and regulatory documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and legal/claims management software.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) strongly preferred.
- Industry certifications such as CPCU, AIC, or ARM are a plus.
- Independent Property and Casualty Adjuster’s License is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience handling property and casualty claims, particularly in toxic tort, environmental claims, or insurance defense litigation.
- Experience in insurance law, risk management, and claims resolution preferred.
Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
