VP of Projects – Building Materials Company
Role Overview :
The VP of Projects will oversee and manage all project operations while leading the project management team. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient project execution, maintaining strong vendor and customer relationships, and optimizing financial and operational performance. Reporting directly to the President, the VP of Projects will provide strategic input, enhance company processes, and drive growth while maintaining hands-on involvement in project management functions.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Management :
- Oversee and manage all project managers, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance oversight.
- Establish best practices and process improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
- Ensure alignment of project operations with company objectives and financial goals.
- Act as a key liaison between project managers and other departments (executive, accounting, etc.).
Project Execution & Operations :
Assist new customers through the credit application process and oversee vendor account creation.Ensure timely and accurate completion of annual pre-qualification paperwork for customers.Lead responses to RFPs / RFQs, ensuring competitive and strategic positioning.Oversee vendor pricing acquisition based on customer-provided material take-offs.Conduct price comparisons and negotiate with vendors, understanding financial drivers that impact profit.Review and approve pricing proposals before submission to customers.Supervise the issuance of sales orders and purchase orders.Manage the issuance of bonds in collaboration with the bonding agent when required.Oversee insurance requirements, ensuring compliance with customer needs and working with insurance agents as necessary.Technology & Compliance :
Ensure familiarity with online construction and billing platforms (Procore, Textura, BuildingConnected, Coupa, etc.).Oversee the creation of RFIs and submission of submittal packets in collaboration with vendors.Manage site logistics, scheduling site deliveries efficiently.Ensure ongoing collaboration and prompt communication among all stakeholders to drive successful project completion.Financial & Administrative Oversight :
Work closely with the accounting team to oversee invoicing, including AIA billing processes.Ensure accurate completion of lien waivers and minority participation documentation throughout the duration of projects.Review and approve close-out documentation, including guarantees, lien waivers, warranties, and customer-specific requirements.Qualifications & Experience :
7 years of experience in project management and / or sales within the building materials or construction industry.Proven leadership experience, managing teams and overseeing project operations.Strong negotiation skills with a deep understanding of pricing, financial drivers, and profitability.Familiarity with construction technology platforms and financial documentation.Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making skills.COMPENSATION PACKAGE :
