What are the responsibilities and job description for the Precision Grinding Technician Apprentice position at Tegra Medical?
Job Summary
State Certified 6000-hours hands-on training program. The training curriculum will be work based and provides you with a hands-on experience in a structured environment.
This program is approved by the Department of Apprenticeship Standards which is governed by the State of Massachusetts. Online classes will be mandatory and will carry out during normal business hours. Due to the significant investment by Tegra Medical and the selected individual, a letter of understanding will be drawn up and signed by both parties.
The Precision Finish Grinding Technician Apprentice will learn how to setup and operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines, including multiple configurations of CNC needle point grinding machines, CNC surface grinding machines, CNC electro-chemical form grinding machines, and CNC electro-chemical needle point grinding machines. Training will be carried out with the direction of trained manufacturing and Engineering Technicians, Engineers, Operators, and work colleagues and will utilize the various operations performed in production as it pertains to training value.
Role and Responsibilities
- Setup & operate machines, achieving specifications including quality and throughput.
- Implement continuous improvement activities. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Perform ERP system transactions.
- Perform required daily maintenance to equipment and tools.
- Work from standard operating procedures, work instructions and prescribed operation sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
- Monitor, observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions.
- Ensure work piece is being properly lubricated and cooled; coolant lines properly located.
- Monitor process and specifications.
- Notify supervisor and/or department Lead Person of discrepancies.
- Perform own part inspection during grinding process to measure work piece to check to match specs, using measuring instruments such as microscope, optical comparator, micrometer, caliper, dial indicators and gauges.
- Communicate with co-workers, members of other shifts, technical leader, team leader and/or supervisor to transfer and receive instructions and information.
- Perform 1st piece and In-process inspections for self.
- Record measurements per inspection plans and methods indicated.
- Simultaneous to grinding operation, perform a variety of secondary operations as required ex: clean and deburr parts, cleaning work areas and assisting others within department.
- Complete Tooling U Course Load
- Participate in safety training.
Level of Skill, Education and Experience
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduate of a vocational school in manufacturing/machining or engineering discipline is a plus.
- Experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a CNC Machining Operator is preferred.
- Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, metals are desired.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and capable of meeting deadlines.
- Meet and maintain minimum efficiency rate for production parts.
- Good manual dexterity and ability to use measurement and inspection tools.
- Good work habits, attendance adherence, strong workmanship values and a positive attitude are required as well as an ability, desire and flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations and other functions within manufacturing as needed.
