TITLE: Crossing Guard
CERTIFICATED/CLASSIFIED: Classified
REPORTS TO: Principal
DESCRIPTION (DEFINITION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS): Under the direction of the
Principal, supervises and escorts student who are coming and leaving school in traffic zones.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (EXAMPLE OF DUTIES):
- Oversee student behavior in designated areas by moving about the area and recognizing any abnormal activities that may be going on.
- Present disciplinary cases to the appropriate school staff when necessary.
- Interact with students, parents, and staff in a positive manner.
- Remain alert for unsafe conditions such as strangers approaching or loitering near campus, and unsafe student behavior and reporting or correcting such conditions.
- Use mature judgment in cases of student injury.
- Enforce discipline program in a firm, caring, and effective mode.
- Explain procedures and discipline rules to students.
- Oversee students in playing games.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
Knowledge of:
- Projecting a firm, caring attitude toward students.
- Communicating effectively with students.
Ability to:
- Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
- Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time
- Ability to see and hear for purposes of awareness of student behavior and hazardous circumstances.
- Ability to speak so others will be able to clearly understand routine instructions and emergency directions.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, run, and crawl.
Training and Experience:
- Interpersonal skills necessary for establishing an understanding and positive relationship with students with special needs.
- Making independent judgment calls regarding student safety.
- Reacting appropriately when presented with a student injury.
