Position Description

Purpose

This intermediate-level position is responsible for conducting routine Quality Assurance (QA) testing materials for quality and compliance within set specifications and reporting the results to appropriate personnel. This position can be responsible for either aggregate, asphalt or geology materials technician duties. This position qualifies for a monthly truck allowance. You must have successfully performed and met all requirements of the Quality Assurance Technician I role to advance into the Quality Assurance Tech II position. You may assume the duties of all QA Tech I and QA Tech II roles as business needs require.

Focus & Scope

Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:

  • Conducts various aggregate, asphalt and aggregate based material quality tests using ASTM, AMRL, AASHTO and specified Caltrans testing procedures.
  • Organizes testing results and prepares reporting information from test results for appropriate Teichert Aggregates’ personnel.
  • Obtains samples from production facilities including aggregate plant and asphalt plants.
  • Coordinates resources to resolve questions and problems and conducts research as necessary.
  • Maintains regular communications with plant personnel and/or supervisor to report material acceptability and test results.
  • May maintain regular communications with vendors and customers when directed by the Supervisor.
  • Communicates with agency personnel to determine contract compliance and product quality.
  • May provide customer plant tours as needed and when directed by the Supervisor.
  • May provide technical assistance (spec reviews) and information to the Sales department and customer when directed by the Supervisor.
  • May be responsible for directing the work of the summer interns.
  • Promotes a Zero Injury culture through personal adherence to all company safety policies and practices.


Qualifications, Requirements, And Competencies

Education

  • A High School diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.


Experience & Industry Expertise

  • A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of related work experience.
  • Must possess Caltrans JTCP Certification Agg I, NAQTC for Nevada, HMA I, HMA II or ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I. Certification requirement will depend on assigned location and at the directed by the Supervisor.
  • Must obtain ACI Aggregate Testing Tech I, and Tech II and Aggregate/Soils Base Testing Technician Certificate. Certification requirement will depend on assigned location and at the direction of the Supervisor.
  • Proficient in use of aggregate testing and related technology.


Specific Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Must possess basic to intermediate computer software skills including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Stonemont QC Software.
  • Must possess mechanical ability to maintain and repair plant equipment related to QA testing and processing.
  • Must demonstrate ability to sample and test materials with ASTM and Cal Trans.
  • Must be able to exercise judgment to identify problems and seek resolution with minimal input from supervisor.
  • Must demonstrate ability to use discretion and meet customer needs within established guidelines.
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Must possess ability to work independently as well as maintain effective working relationships within a team environment.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to speak and understand English to a proficient and understandable level.
  • Must possess a valid Driver License in the state you reside and work in and must maintain an acceptable driving record.

Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Physical: Viewing of computer monitor. Keyboarding: use of fingers to make small movements such as typing and mouse usage. Driving to plant sites, other offices or meeting sites. Position may require lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Special projects (such as breaking down geology samples) may require lifting up to 80 lbs. May require walking on uneven ground, climbing, reaching, bending or stooping. May be required to work outdoors for long periods of time and at varied shift levels from day to swing to night. Use of general tools for maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Work Environment: Plant locations may contain dust, fumes, debris, medium to loud levels of noise and extreme weather conditions including excessive heat or cold and rain prevalent at times. Works with and handles hot material samples. Travel may be required to other locations, site facilities or educational seminars. Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Lab testing environment may contain dust and medium to loud levels of noise with variations in temperature. Some locations may require climbing ladders and working at elevated heights.
