Position Title: Accessibility Specialist
Position Description:
The Accessibility Specialist will leverage specialized experience and technical proficiency to ensure that documents meet accessibility standards. This role involves using both manual and automated remediation techniques to achieve compliance and create equitable document experiences. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilize tools such as Adobe Acrobat, CommonLook, and similar software to remediate PDF documents to meet or exceed accessibility standards.
- Perform remediation tasks on various document types, including web pages and Microsoft Office documents.
- Use assistive technologies, such as screen readers (e.g., JAWS, Narrator, NVDA), to manually test and verify document accessibility.
- Support accessibility accommodation requests from stakeholders.
- Monitor, track, and report on progress and activities related to document remediation.
- Stay current with accessibility standards, such as Section 508 and WCAG, and adapt practices as necessary.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new software skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4-6 years of experience in document accessibility remediation and auditing.
- Proficiency in tools like CommonLook PDF or similar document remediation software.
- Hands-on experience with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, Narrator) and other assistive technologies for accessibility testing.
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and resolve issues independently.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards including Section 508, WCAG, PDF/UA.
- High attention to technical detail.
