TekCom Resources, Inc is currently recruiting Low Voltage Cable Technician -MDU for one of our customers with needs in the Syracuse, NY area. This is an excellent opportunity to not only perform the duties but we are looking for someone senior enough to build a team and develop them to grow with our client.
We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Cable Technician with expertise in managed Wi-Fi, Fiber to the Unit (FTTU), and in-building network installations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in deploying and maintaining structured cabling and network infrastructure in multi-unit buildings, commercial spaces, and mixed-use properties. This role requires a deep understanding of low-voltage systems and the ability to deliver high-quality, reliable connectivity solutions.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Low-Voltage Cable Technician to install, troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain managed Wi-Fi, Fiber to the Unit (FTTU), and in-building network systems. You will be instrumental in delivering reliable connectivity by executing installations, performing preventive maintenance, and resolving technical issues in multi-dwelling units (MDUs).
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Configuration:
- Install and terminate low-voltage cabling, including fiber optics, Cat5e/Cat6, and coaxial cables.
- Deploy and configure network hardware such as access points, switches, routers, ONTs, and patch panels.
- Establish and maintain fiber optic links, including splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Construct cable pathways using conduits, raceways, and trays while adhering to safety and building codes.
- Test and certify installed cabling to meet performance standards using tools like OTDRs and cable certifiers. Diagnose and resolve issues in managed Wi-Fi systems, fiber networks, and Ethernet connections.
- Address network performance issues to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and property stakeholders to plan and execute installations.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and floor plans to determine optimal routing and strategies.
- Document all work performed, including as-built drawings, test results, and inventory logs.
- Conduct routine maintenance and upgrade network infrastructure for optimal performance.
- Repair or replace damaged components such as cables, connectors, and hardware.
- Proven experience with low-voltage cable installation, fiber optics, and Ethernet cabling.
- Hands-on experience with managed Wi-Fi solutions, including enterprise-grade access points and controllers.
- Expertise in Fiber to the Unit (FTTU) installation and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of networking hardware and protocols (e.g., VLANs, PoE, IP networking).
- Familiarity with in-building network technologies like distributed antenna systems (DAS) and structured cabling.
- BICSI Installer/Technician, RCDD, or similar certifications.
- Fiber optic certifications (e.g., FOA, Corning, Fluke).
- OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training.
