What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Planner & Buyer position at TekniPlex?
SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Responsible for scheduling plant production capacity and purchasing required materials with the objective of optimizing the use of human, machine, and material assets while maintaining on time order fulfillment. Additional responsibilities include purchasing necessary items to maintain daily business functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepares weekly schedule and audit daily to insure meeting commitment dates.
• Reviews schedule daily to ensure progress and adjust as needed.
• Coordinates raw materials and manufacturing supplies in accordance with production lines that need to run.
• Work closely with Production Supervisor to maximize efficiency by monitoring production schedule against standard.
• Monitor machine utilization and apply this data to the schedule to ensure accuracy of forecasted completion dates.
• Update production scheduled and planner on a daily basis.
• Understand and be aware of price and deliver arrangements of raw materials.
• Contact suppliers regarding adjustments, incorrect material, delivery delays, etc.
• Prepares and files all purchasing related documents. Prepares requisitions, orders, or other documents for purchasing or requisitioning new or additional stock items. Inputs all changes into the purchasing system, including PO’s and price changes.
• Compiles data from sources such as contracts, purchase orders, invoices, requisitions, and accounting reports and writes, types, or enters information into computer to maintain inventory, purchasing, shipping, or other records. Consults catalogs and interviews suppliers to obtain prices and specifications.
• Obtains quotes, prices and delivery information for goods as needed.
• Coordinates purchasing activities with other departments to maintain inventory at planned levels. Compiles stock control records and information such as consumption rate, characteristics of items in storage, and current market conditions, to determine stock supply and need for replenishment.
• All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent plus five years experience with direct responsibility for planning and purchasing resources within a complex manufacturing environment. Good interpersonal, organization and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with co-workers from various disciplines within the organization to accomplish goals. Strong computer skills. Ability to operator and communicate effectively in person, over the telephone, and in groups, under normal and stressful conditions with customer, vendors and employees within the organization.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Good English communication skills, both verbal and written ability to read and write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or vendors of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and use a computer. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands/fingers; talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with limited exposure to adverse working conditions.
