Implements production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner. Participates and assists in resolving work-in-process problems. Under guidance of a Sr. Process Engineer or supervisor, recommends and implements improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters to increase efficiency, optimize yield, and minimize the occurrence of off spec material. Monitors assigned operations to assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards. Able to make contributions in support of error proof practices and procedures and make recommendations on techniques to make operator tasks easier and less prone to error.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Executes process / production engineering activities and participates in review of engineering issues. Provides guidance/coaching to operating staff when and where applicable.
- Monitors existing production processes and works to ensure operational alignment and consistency with established methods
- Able to contribute to the development of production process methods that improve operational performance.
- Implements assigned projects to improve rates and set up standard formats for different processes.
- Assists is establishing specific work goals and performance standards in order to reduce reject rate and minimize downtime.
- Supports or leads efforts to answer customer complaints and implements corrective action when necessary to resolve issues.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Supports initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce b-grade generation, and promote practices to achieve highest yield.
- Supports established initiatives on digitization and automation to continuously modernize manufacturing operations. Able to contribute to solutions that will improve safety, working conditions, efficiency, quality.
- Support FMEA execution and contribute to development of Control Plans as necessary.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Position has no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.
- Position has no budget or revenue responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
- Good understanding of the products, material science and equipment involved in manufacturing.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work in and support an ISO 9000 environment.
- Knowledge in thermoplastics, polymer blends, and polymer compounding preferred.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Work requires the application of a variety of procedures, policies, and/or precedents used in combination. Frequently, the application of multiple technical activities are employed; analytic ability and inductive thinking are required.
- Must be able to understand and creatively solve processing / production problems.
- Must be able to support and implement new ways to approach problems and ensure existing mechanical equipment operates within established parameters.
- Hold Six Sigma Green Belt certification (or commit to obtain within two years) and demonstrate practice and proficiency in data analysis, statistical tools (performing DOEs, etc.) toward the objective of process / production optimization

- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Able to climb ladders/stairs to reach all plant equipment.
