Job Title: Automotive HV Battery Hardware Engineer
Location: Detroit, MI (On-site)
Duration: Fulltime
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the hardware design and development of high voltage battery systems including cells, modules, pack enclosures, wiring harnesses, and BMS (Battery Management System) integration.
- Specify and select appropriate components (contactors, fuses, sensors, connectors) for battery applications.
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics, harness diagrams, and interface control documents.
- Define technical requirements and participate in system architecture development for HV battery packs.
- Conduct design reviews, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with suppliers to define component specifications and ensure timely delivery and quality standards.
- Support thermal, structural, and safety validation activities including abuse testing (thermal runaway, short-circuit, crush, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with automotive industry standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21434, LV 123, UN ECE R100, and UL2580.
- Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of battery hardware issues during development and in production.
- Support testing and validation activities, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and vehicle integration testing.
- Maintain and manage documentation including test reports, drawings, and engineering change requests.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field. (Master’s degree preferred.)
- 3 years of experience in automotive battery development or related high voltage system hardware engineering.
- Solid understanding of HV battery system design principles including electrical safety, power electronics, and thermal management.
- Hands-on experience with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA) and electrical design tools (e.g., Capital, E3, AutoCAD Electrical).
- Familiarity with HV safety practices and standards.
- Strong knowledge of validation methods for battery systems (e.g., thermal, vibration, shock, ingress protection testing).
Salary : $80,000 - $90,000
