About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Collection Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing research, correction, and updates within the accounts receivable management systems to ensure billing and receipt of compensation for services provided in resident care.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in healthcare accounts receivable, with expertise in billing, collections, cash posting, and other revenue cycle-related processes.
You will work closely with our team to translate internal charge files to appropriate billing formats, perform follow-up and collections of accounts with outstanding balances, and adhere to department guidance on account documentation notes structure and content.
In addition to your technical skills, you will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with our clients and partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Billing: Translate internal charge files to appropriate billing formats for electronic and manual claims submission to third-party and private payers.
- Collections: Perform follow-up and collections of accounts with outstanding balances.
- Account Documentation: Adhere to department guidance on account documentation notes structure and content.
- Appeals and Claims: Initiate appeals, corrected claims submissions, or submit medical records in response to payer requests for information or denied claims.
- Cash Posting: Post contractual allowances, write-offs, and payments against appropriate claim/line item using the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Remittance Advice.
- Rejection and Denial: Post rejection and denial transaction codes and descriptions using the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Remittance Advice.
- Misapplied Cash: Research misapplied cash and credit balances utilizing appropriate payment and write-off codes.
Requirements
- Education: Graduation from an accredited two-year college with major coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Finance/Administration, or related field of study is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum two years of healthcare accounts receivable experience in billing, collections, cash posting, or other healthcare revenue cycle-related experience.
- Certifications: Current Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS-I) from the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) is preferred.
- Skills: Knowledge of billing, collections, and cash posting processes in a healthcare provider environment; Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care experience is a plus; experience working with CPT and ICD-10; knowledge of medical terminology; knowledge of Federal, State, and third-party electronic claims submission, denials, and reimbursement practices; experience working with CMS1500 and UB04 claim forms; knowledge of Vision or other medical practice management systems; proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Licenses: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
