Field Services Engineer | South Elgin, IL ( Remote)
PURPOSE OF POSITION :
The client is one of the leading suppliers of Rubber Injection molding machines globally with headquarters in Austria. We are searching for a Field Service Engineer to join our growing USA subsidiary located in South Elgin near Chicago (Illinois). This position does not need relocation to the Chicago area and remote working is possible. USA Citizen is preferred as we cannot sponsor work visas .
The Service Engineer's responsibilities include installing new machines, repairing faults, servicing molding equipment, creating preventative maintenance strategies, and training customer staff. This position of Service Engineer will need good knowledge of Hydraulics, electrical circuits, PLC, and automation. Experience of maintaining processing / molding machines will be advantageous .
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
Provide effective field service for maintenance, warranty, and repair services (structural and routine) on all company machine product line.
Perform all job tasks in compliance with MAPLAN safety practices and procedures, if any, as may be required by the customer when performing tasks at a customer facility.
Perform all job duties assigned related to In-house machine assembly, retrofitting projects.
Within the scope of the position, demonstrate a proficient knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components of the product line and the repair / service procedures applicable to such machinery. Keep skills and knowledge base current to effectively service and repair new machinery and implement new service and repair techniques. Acquire an effective knowledge of service procedures as specified by MAPLAN Service guidelines and apply such procedures in rebuilding MAPLAN Equipment with assistance on more complex rebuild assignments
Maintain accurate records of all services, repairs, and other work, including proper completion of service repair orders, warranty, and service agreement documentation. Comply with record-keeping requirements, within the scope of the position, with respect to such items as time tracking, parts inventory and customer invoicing, and expense reporting.
Upon request from customer, assist in providing instruction on proper machine operation, capabilities, and appropriate actions when confronted with a breakdown of machinery.
Coordinate with sales account managers to advise of possible new product needs of the customer and of situations potentially impacting the customer relationship and future sales potential. As appropriate, work to generate additional service and parts revenue by assisting customers in identifying unfilled needs, gaps in service contract coverage, etc.
A competent MAPLAN Service Technician is able to use visual and audible clues to detect problems when repairing machinery.
EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS :
- An associate degree or bachelor's degree in electrical / mechanical engineering or similar.
- Must have a mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot or repair mechanical assemblies, hydraulic systems, etc.
- The ability to disassemble large machine components for diagnostics and repair
- The ability to read and understand European based hydraulic and electrical Schematics (symbols and format). MAPLAN documentation is in English.
- The ability to trace wiring to various components within the electrical cabinet and other features of the machine
- The ability to use fork trucks, overhead cranes, and basic rigging of large mechanical components.
- Basic knowledge of PLC-based control systems. Modern MAPLAN control systems have many diagnostic systems integrated into the control system.
- Working Knowledge of Servo Hydraulic systems is required.
- The ability to work in a factory environment on your feet up to 8-10 hours per day.
- The position requires effective interaction and teamwork within MAPLAN.
- Effective interaction is also required with representatives / associates of the customer's organization.
- Physical effort may be required to move heavy objects. Work may need stooping, bending squatting and kneeling etc.
- A good knowledge is required of the use of a variety of hand and power tools
- Complete training programs and classes as may be assigned by MAPLAN
- Traveling to customers is required regularly (60-75% travel)
- International travel on occasion is required with our parent factory for training in Austria, customers in Mexico, Canada, Brazil etc. Field Service Technicians are required to have a passport.
