On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled User Experience and User Interface (UX / UI) Designer - LifeRay to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.
Background
A Telespazio team is responsible for providing technical IT services to the Science Directorate within ESA and is based out of both ESAC, Spain and ESTEC, Holland. The team works on-site for ESA and delivers cross-mission, centrally managed IT services to the teams supporting the various scientific satellite missions. These services include two Liferay portals delivering the web presence of the directorate. One of these portals has been effectively frozen for some time and needs redevelopment.
The team will be working on a new project to redevelop this web portal, and we now require a new team member to work with the existing Liferay portal experts based onsite for ESA in ESTEC, Holland.
What is expected from you :
The role will be for a user experience and user interface (UX / UI) designer with experience in designing enterprise level Liferay web content. They will work closely with the 3 existing Liferay experts in the team and will primarily be responsible for designing a new, modern look and feel. They will also work with scientists on the design of new web content for showcasing ESA Science activities.
The candidate will be responsible for creating user-centred designs for the existing web portals and software interfaces. The primary focus of this role will be on enhancing user satisfaction, and usability by improving the accessibility, efficiency, and aesthetics of the existing web portal.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include :
- Collaborate with other team members and end-users, ESA scientists & engineers, to gather and assess user requirements
- Visualize design concepts through storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps
- Create graphic elements for the user interface, such as menus, tabs, and widgets
- Construct navigation buttons and search fields for a seamless user experience
- Develop UI mockups and prototypes that showcase site functionality and appearance
- Present initial design drafts to internal team members and key stakeholders
- Identify and resolve UX issues, such as responsiveness and usability challenges
- Make layout adjustments based on user feedback
- Maintain consistency with style standards within the constraints of ESA’s design standards
- Maintain consistency across the various mission-specific websites within the portal

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency’s offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don’t expect the employees to be on-site full time; however, you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position .
