Job Title: Older Adult Day Program Attendant
Status: Part-time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Older Adult Care Services
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Adult Day Program Attendant will work with a team of other attendants, coordinators, nurses and leadership to provide assistance, supervision, companionship and support to all Telespond Senior Services Older Adult Day Program participants by addressing activities of daily living needs, encouraging socialization and creativity, maintaining safe and hygienic facilities, meeting the dietary needs of all participants, and adhering to their personalized care plans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist all Adult Day Program (ADP) Participants with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as needed.
2. Assist ADP participants in performing rehabilitative activities and exercises such as stretching, yoga, chair Zumba, and walking.
3. Provide supervision and companionship to all ADP participants by accompanying them while they ambulate, sitting with them as needed for support, escorting them to sensory spaces as needed.
4. Know all ADP participants on a personal level, fully understanding their likes, dislikes, hobbies, interests, and their past experiences as a way to connect with them, and provide best engagement and support.
5. Under guidance from the ADP nursing staff, understand participant diet restrictions and medical history and follow care guidelines as required.
6. Dish and serve all meals and snacks. Supervise all participants while they eat and assist as needed.
7. Assist with cleaning after meals and activities. Ensure the dining room, kitchen, bathrooms, and activities surfaces and spaces are clean, well-organized, and free of obstacles which may prevent safe ambulation for the participants.
8. Encourage participant socialization by bringing positivity and a lively, happy energy to the center. Be excited about programming, initiatives, and events and share that with coworkers, participants and their families.
9. Have an understanding of HIPAA regulations and compliance. Report participant and facilities incidents and events as outlined in the critical incident reporting policy and all other facilities policies.
10. Assist with implementing and coordinating recreational activities as needed and assist the Activities Coordinator with One-to-One and Group Sessions, repositioning and relocating of participants as needed for activities.
11. Assist Transportation Coordinator and drivers with loading and unloading of participants from transportation vans. Escort the clients in and out of the center.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Age 18 or older.
2. Eligible for employment in the U.S.
3. High School Diploma or GED
4. At least 1-years’ experience working with older adults in a healthcare or social setting.
5. Certified in first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
6. Knowledge of safe body mechanics when assisting with ADLs.
7. Experience working with individuals with physical and/or cognitive impairments.
8. Must be able to perform extensive standing, walking, bending, crouching, reach with hands and arms, lift up to 25lbs.
