POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, responsible for building permit administration and general administrative support.

(1) Serves as the first point of contact in person and via phone for customer service on construction and environmental projects. Provides information and assistance to customers regarding permits, contractor licensing, permit fees, codes, requirements and regulations. Review permit applications for completeness.
(2) Input data daily to ensure proper records of changes. Track/update permit process including coordinating segments in which other Departments/Offices are involved.
(3) Perform administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence, answering telephones, copying, emailing, collecting fees, record keeping, file maintenance, and preparing packets for board meetings and hearings.
(4) Receives and forwards code enforcement issues to the appropriate personnel.
(5) Tracks the progress of permits, applications, and inspections electronically. Enters inspection requests in the electronic system and follows up with customers.
(6) Completes notifications to customers on all aspects of status/progress of projects as related to the Community Development Department.
(7) Processes bank deposits for the Community Development Department. Accepts payments, issues receipts, and maintains records of transactions.
(8) Monitors active contractor licenses, issues licenses, ensures proper insurance policies are in place for contractors prior to issuing licenses, monitors licenses under revocation/suspension, and forwards complaints about contractors to Board of Review Secretary.
(9) Serves as liaison with customers, inspectors and governmental officials as necessary.

(1) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of: principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; various computer software programs, data bases and general office equipment.
Skilled in: providing excellent customer service; organization and time management; attention to detail to ensure accuracy of work performed; multi-tasking; handling heavy phone volume; working in an environment with frequent interruptions.
Ability to: communicate in writing and verbally with a variety of audiences in a clear, concise and organized manner to effectively convey information; maintain confidentiality; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public; maintain working knowledge of applicable Colorado State Statutes and local regulations.
(2) Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years directly working with the public or two (2) years general office experience strongly preferred; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
(3) Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to write and read; able to hear, see and speak.
(4) Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position requires light physical exertion and the normal range of motion, dexterity, and vision. Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds; sit for long periods of time; ability to drive a car.
(5) Environmental Factors: This position works in an office setting with occasional local travel.
(6) Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; some flexibility of schedule may be required for special projects/deadlines.
(7) License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
