Salary range: $1,993 - $2,093 (semi-monthly)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, hourly

POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, fabricates, installs, maintains and repairs all traffic control devices on County roadways, maintains appropriate records regarding traffic control, and performs traffic counts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities listed below are central to the job and the employee must be able to perform each function satisfactorily. (1) Perform skilled and semi-skilled duties involving the preparation, fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices and appurtenances.

(2) Operate post drivers, post removers, and miscellaneous power and hand tools.

(3) Determine proper distance, height and location of signage as regulated by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

(4) Set up and remove barricades, cones, warning signs and any other traffic control devices as work requires; ensure traffic control complies with regulations set forth in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

(5) Set up road counters and document results.

(6) Respond to emergency calls regarding damaged or missing signage.

(7) Maintain and update traffic control inventory records, routine maintenance records, work performed records, time and materials expended.

(8) Meet with utility locators to determine underground utility locations before excavating for sign installation.

(9) Operate heavy and light equipment as necessary.

(10) Service and make minor repairs to assigned equipment.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. The list is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all knowledge, skills or abilities that are required.

(1) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of: road construction, maintenance and repair operations; work site traffic control; practical understanding of the appropriate State and Federal laws and regulations to include, but not limited to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skilled in: time management; organization.

Ability to: read, interpret and apply State and Federal laws and regulations; read, interpret and apply the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; work with little supervision; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public.

(2) Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of related work experience; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

(3) Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to write and read; able to hear, see and speak.

(4) Physical Effort/Dexterity: Manual dexterity; ability to lift and carry 80 pounds; ability to use tools; ability to drive a car as well as various equipment; must be in good physical condition.

(5) Environmental Factors: Must be able to work under adverse conditions for extended periods of time. Such conditions may include dirt, noise, rain, snow and extremes of temperature.

(6) Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; ability to respond to emergency situations on a 24-hour basis.

(7) License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license; possession of Colorado Flagger Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days from date of hire; attendance of CCA or AASHTO TCS training class within 18 months of employment.
