Role Summary
The Assistant Controller at Tellus Equipment Solutions, LLC. ensures that all financial and accounting operations within the accounting department run smoothly by reviewing financial accounts for accuracy, performing or reviewing the reconciliations for all general ledger balance sheet accounts, and overseeing the work of the Accounting Staff. This role will report directly to the Controller and is responsible for managing a team of approximately five (5) people to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with accounting staff and interact with other departments to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and appropriate training
- Develop trusted advisor relationships with key staff, stakeholders, and executives
- Supervise and provide overall guidance to Accounting personnel
- Full responsibility for month-end closes including journal entries, reconciliations, payroll-related accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, corporate franchise tax, sales and use tax and other inventory-related taxes, accruals, and compliance with accounting policies and procedures
- Provide detailed monthly and quarterly review, analysis, and reconciliation of accounting performance reports, including the Deere Statement, and delegate balance sheet account reconciliations across the accounting team as appropriate
- Analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) and company policies before they are distributed to the Controller and CFO for review
- Perform, or closely oversee, the monthly reconciliations of the largest and most complicated general ledger accounts, to include Floor Plan, Whole Goods Inventory, Parts Inventory, WIP, and several Clearing Accounts
- Interface with Targit (our data analytics and financial reporting add-on to CDK) to design accurate financial statement presentations and insightful analytics reports
- Support annual external audit through managing the preparation and review of all audit schedules and information provided to auditors (PBCs / “Prepared-by-Client” schedules)
- Understand internal control procedures related to areas managed, and participate in controls documentation, evaluation, and improvement
- Streamline and document department processes and procedures with the objective of following lean principles while also maintaining strong internal controls
- Develop and refine accounting policies and procedures as appropriate
- Establish challenging goals, direct actions to achieve goals, coach and develop staff
