STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FACILITATOR
THE POSITION Student Assistance Program Facilitator works with middle school sites to assist in providing a systematic approach to help identify, discipline, refer, pre-assess, education and support students who exhibit any level of behavior that interfere with their learning process to decrease the number of suspension and expulsion referrals. RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Child Welfare & Attendance EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThe duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:
- Implement designated curriculum; conduct consenting and guidance learning activities, individual or in a group, during the year in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Monitor the behavioral interventions being implemented for students and communicate progress to interested and appropriate parties.
- Provide prevention and intervention services; contribute to the effective delivery of things such as conflict resolution, crisis intervention, support group/group intervention (Anger Management, Violence/Bullying, Drop-Out Prevention, Grief, Self-Esteem).
- Assist students in understanding themselves, including their strengths and weaknesses.
- Teach lessons in developing effective academic and personal/social habits for success.
- Provide resources for teachers, students and parents to meet the personal and social needs of the students.
- Gather and analyze empirical data to develop student intervention programs.
- Review some chronic behavioral referrals and work with school site teams to address behaviors.
- Provide responsive services in order to meet the students’ immediate and future needs.
- Engage students in whole group lessons on personal/social issues.
- Participate on the TVUSD School crisis team.
- Plan, organize and lead structured program for students struggling with schoolwork, drug/alcohol issues and social skills.
- Provide systematic, ongoing trainings for parents.
- Seek out and write grants to support intervention programs to benefit targeted students.
- Coordinate with community agencies to provide mental health services for students.
- Meet with families, probation officers, police and other appropriate parties.
- Guide students, with the use of a program, in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their social issues, etc.
- Act as a student advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis.
- Work collaboratively with the Special Education Behavioral Support Team to coordinate efforts on services for all students.
- Refer students and families to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
- Gather information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with other supports.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
- Valid Credential in special education, pupil personnel services, clinical services, health services, or a school psychologist authorization.
- Previous experience with behavioral intervention support at the middle school level.
- Experience with the development and implementation of curriculum.
- Previous trainings on group/individual intervention.
- History of presentations/teaching at the middle school level.
- Minimum of two years working with Special Education Students.
Salary : $62,240 - $138,486
