What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welding/Pipefitter Fabrication Lead position at Temp-Con LLC?
Leadership & Supervision:
- Provide day-to-day supervision of fabrication personnel, ensuring productivity, quality, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Assign and track work orders, monitor progress, and communicate updates to the Production Manager, Project Managers, and Field Superintendents.
- Train and mentor welders, pipefitters, and other shop personnel to enhance skill levels and promote continuous improvement.
- Serve as a leader in both the shop and the field, providing hands-on assistance when needed.
Technical Expertise & Execution:
- Interpret and execute work based on blueprints, schematics, and project specifications.
- Oversee fabrication, welding, and assembly processes, ensuring precision and compliance with codes and standards.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges, provide solutions, and implement best practices for efficiency and quality.
- Lead field installations, modifications, and repairs as needed, ensuring proper integration with fabricated components.
Coordination & Communication:
- Work closely with the Production Manager to plan and prioritize shop workflow, ensuring alignment with project schedules.
- Collaborate with project teams to anticipate material needs, production constraints, and delivery timelines.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication between the shop and project teams to optimize project execution.
Field Responsibilities:
- Travel to job sites as needed to oversee or assist with installations and repairs.
- Ensure proper fit-up and integration of shop-fabricated components with field installations.
- Work with field teams to resolve any on-site challenges, ensuring projects remain on schedule and meet quality expectations.
- Uphold safety standards and enforce proper work practices on-site.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure all work meets industry standards, company procedures, and project specifications.
- Work closely with quality control personnel to inspect work, maintain documentation, and address any deficiencies.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and compliance reports.
Safety & Shop/Field Management:
- Enforce OSHA and company safety policies, conducting safety meetings and audits as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-equipped shop environment.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and used according to safety guidelines.
- Enforce safety compliance in both the shop and the field.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical fabrication, welding, or pipefitting.
- Strong leadership and supervisory experience in a fabrication shop and field environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and project drawings.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as ASME and API.
- Strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate with the Production Manager, Field Superintendents, and Project Managers.
- Willingness to work in the field when needed, including travel to job sites.
Preferred:
- Certifications in welding (AWS, ASME) or NDE (Non-Destructive Examination).
- Experience with pressure vessel or modular fabrication.
- Proficiency in multiple welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, and MIG/FCAW.
- Experience leading teams in both shop and field environments.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work performed in both a shop and field environment, with exposure to welding fumes, noise, heavy equipment, and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in confined or elevated spaces when required.
- Travel to job sites as necessary.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as per company policy.
