The Operations Manager is responsible for the operational performance of the Production, Quality, and Maintenance Departments to ensure optimal customer satisfaction, while managing the department resources to ensure effective, economical use of personnel and equipment within Tempered and Specialty Metals (TSM).
Responsibilities and Duties
As a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilities expected of the Operations Manager. These duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change as the needs of the organization require.
- Coordinate and supervise production in accordance with established policies, principles, and procedures.
- Manage all operations through the department’s supervisors.
- Facilitate daily morning production meetings.
- Conduct monthly safety, quality, and production meetings.
- Develop and execute plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
- Work with the maintenance personnel to develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
- Maintain, enforce, and report metrics on all safety, production, and quality policies and procedures.
- Actively support the maintenance of all ISO and OSHA requirements.
- Manage, track, and monitor department costs including working hours of machines and employees.
- Manage, lead, train, and evaluate all production team members per established requirements.
- Promote, encourage, and support employee training and development.
- Promote a positive work environment based on teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Establish strong communication between all departments within the organization.
- Actively participate in the leadership team with General Manager and Sales Manager.
- Direct annual budgeting and planning processes.
- Develop and maintain short-term and long-term equipment needs analysis.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor lead time schedules that offer better industry performance.
- Improve material utilization and reduce scrap rates.
- Lead the manufacturing process to ensure that safety rules, regulations, and quality standards are enforced.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three or more years of experience in operations management
- Three or more years of supervisory experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to motivate, train, and develop employees
- Ability to create a culture of continuous improvement with forward thinking
- Ability to analyze, track, and maintain accountabilities
- Ability to effectively multi-task
- Strong work ethic; self-motivated
- Operate with high integrity, maintaining positive relations with co-workers, customers, suppliers, and management, ensuring same standards from subordinates
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on Business or related area
- Five or more years of experience in operations management
