TemperPack is a rapidly growing company based in Richmond, Virginia. We design and manufacture innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products. The markets we serve have an urgent need for disruptive, sustainable alternatives to replace the wide array of non-sustainable packaging materials conventionally used in the cold chain such as Styrofoam coolers. Role: Controls Engineer III
Reports to: Controls Engineering Manager
Business Unit: Engineering
FLSA: Exempt
Role Summary:
As the Controls Engineer III you will be one of TemperPack’s subject matter experts in PLC based control systems. Within this role you will develop creative solutions to design challenges, build relationships with a diverse range of vendors and collaborate closely with the Mechanical and Process Engineering groups. You will also support a range of continuous improvement work.
Essential Job Functions:
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical and control systems.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships.
- Troubleshoot and maintain electrical, pneumatic. Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
- Perform on-site startup, commissioning, and validation of new machines.
Qualifications
Experience and Education:
- 5 years’ experience in Industrial Automation.
- BSME or BSEE with concentration in automation, system integration and machinery preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs and motion systems is a must; Allen Bradley or Schneider preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of AutoCAd Electrical; SolidWorks is optional.
- Wide knowledge of standard pneumatic, electric, and mechanical solutions.
- Understand, design, and practice machine safety
- Be able to understand how a machine functions mechanically.
- Be able to apply electrical components to a control system to make the machine run as designed.
- Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively.
- Adept at prototyping and building proof of concept models.
- Demonstrate strong communication with colleagues and customers
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 40 pounds unassisted.
- Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks
- Ability to work in hot and cold environments
- Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts
- Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts
