The Upfit Apprentice assists in the installation and modification of specialized equipment on vehicles, ensuring that all work is performed to company standards and customer specifications. Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Modification:
- Assist in the installation of vehicle components such as service bodies, shelving, lighting, electrical systems, and other specialized equipment.
- Perform basic modifications and adjustments to vehicles as directed by senior technicians or supervisors.
- Follow detailed instructions and technical drawings to complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct basic quality checks on completed work to ensure proper installation and functionality.
- Report any issues or discrepancies to senior technicians or supervisors for resolution.
Tool and Equipment Handling:
- Safely operate hand and power tools required for upfitting tasks.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Assist in inventory management by tracking parts and materials used in the upfitting process.
Training and Development:
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn and develop technical skills related to vehicle upfitting.
- Seek guidance and feedback from senior technicians and supervisors to improve performance and knowledge.
- Stay up-to-date with company policies, safety procedures, and industry best practices.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, and handle tools and equipment company safety policies.
- Ensure that all upfitting activities comply with industry regulations and customer requirements.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific tasks.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of automotive systems or experience in a related field (e.g., automotive repair, mechanical work) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings and instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings.
