Upfit Apprentice

The Upfit Apprentice assists in the installation and modification of specialized equipment on vehicles, ensuring that all work is performed to company standards and customer specifications. This position is ideal for candidates with a basic understanding of automotive systems who are looking to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in vehicle upfitting.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Modification:

• Assist in the installation of vehicle components such as service bodies, shelving, lighting, electrical systems, and other specialized equipment.
• Perform basic modifications and adjustments to vehicles as directed by senior technicians or supervisors.
• Follow detailed instructions and technical drawings to complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.

Quality Assurance:

• Conduct basic quality checks on completed work to ensure proper installation and functionality.
• Report any issues or discrepancies to senior technicians or supervisors for resolution.

Tool and Equipment Handling:

• Safely operate hand and power tools required for upfitting tasks.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
• Assist in inventory management by tracking parts and materials used in the upfitting process.

Training and Development:

• Participate in on-the-job training to learn and develop technical skills related to vehicle upfitting.
• Seek guidance and feedback from senior technicians and supervisors to improve performance and knowledge.
• Stay up-to-date with company policies, safety procedures, and industry best practices.

Safety and Compliance:

• Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, and handle tools and equipment company safety policies.
• Ensure that all upfitting activities comply with industry regulations and customer requirements.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific tasks.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of automotive systems or experience in a related field (e.g., automotive repair, mechanical work) is preferred but not required.
• Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings and instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings.
