Responsibilities
● Support Instruction & Professional Development:
● Assist teachers in finding resources that support both content-area instruction and
professional growth.
● Collaborate with students, staff, and the learning community to assess information needs
and create meaningful learning experiences.
● Promote a love for reading and lifelong learning by working alongside teachers to plan
engaging activities and programs.
● Guide students in developing information and communication skills across various
platforms.
Innovate & Engage:
● Stay current with research on teaching and learning, using this knowledge to help
students access, evaluate, and create knowledge from diverse sources.
● Embrace all formats of information and promote the creative use of multimedia tools to
enhance learning and personal expression.
Library Management:
● Manage and oversee the library budget, ensuring all expenditures are properly tracked.
● Curate a diverse and inclusive collection of materials, offering varied perspectives that
represent our pluralistic society.
● Collaborate with teachers and leadership to plan and maintain an efficient,
well-organized library that serves the educational needs of the entire school.
● Regularly evaluate and update library collections, ensuring resources are current and
relevant. Replace outdated materials with timely print and digital alternatives.
● Create an inviting library environment that encourages students to engage with and
explore resources.
Collaborative Planning:
● Work closely with teachers to incorporate library, media, and technology resources into
lesson planning.
● Offer recommendations for integrating library skills and resources into classroom
instruction, supporting the curriculum's goals.
Additional Responsibilities:
● Serve as a resource for students, parents, and staff, fostering a collaborative and
supportive educational environment.
● Model the effective and enthusiastic use of books, multimedia, and technology in
promoting both pleasure reading and academic success.
● Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with trends in
educational technology, library science, and literacy.
● Uphold the values of intellectual freedom, confidentiality, and the ethical management of
intellectual property in all library practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
● Education: A Bachelor's degree in Education, Library Science, or a related field is
required; Master's degree preferred.
● Experience: At least 3 years of experience in elementary school education, with a
passion for working with young learners.
● Instructional Expertise: Strong knowledge of age-appropriate instructional methods for
elementary school students.
● Student-Centered: A deep desire and ability to engage with students of diverse
backgrounds and varying abilities, guiding them toward achieving their educational
goals.
● Communication: Excellent communication skills to engage with students, parents, staff,
and administrators, including the ability to navigate sensitive topics with professionalism.
