Position Summary & Essential Duties

The following duties, responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed. SUMMARY :

Under general supervision from the department chair, the incumbent teaches courses as scheduled, cultivates a healthy teacher-student relationship, and engages the students in active learning. The incumbent will make recommendations regarding curriculum changes, text selection, and content revision. The instructor will perform administrative aspects of instruction in a timely manner.

The incumbent will teach a 2-credit-hour course in the Summer, with the possibility of teaching in other semesters should demand grow.

Qualifications (Required and Preferred)

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND WORK REQUIREMENTS :

Master's degree in dance or Master's Degree with a concentration of 18 semester graduate hours in dance performance. Must also meet any criteria specified by appropriate accrediting body.

PREFERRED :

Two (2) years directly related work experience in dance and / or musical theatre.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will :

  • Utilize advancements in technology to improve instructional methodology.

  • Maintain accessibility to students for advisement and consultation.

  • Develop and implement innovative course content based on current pedagogy.
  • Integrate a diverse set of perspectives and ideas into course curriculum.
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking to problem solve within the classroom, the department, and the institution.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism with supervisors, colleagues, and students.
  • Complete administrative aspects of instructional and institutional responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Perform job-related duties as assigned.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT :

    The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. Use of audio / visual devices. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Work is normally performed in an interior / office work environment.

    WORK SCHEDULE :

    As determined by Department Chair

    This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours.

    HOURS REQUIRED PER WEEK :

    A minimum of five (5) hours per week for a two (2) semester hour class.

  • PAYROLL : Employees are paid by direct deposit through the last working day of the month. Wages for 16-week semesters are paid evenly over four months, and eight-week semesters are paid evenly over two months, with the first deposit occurring on the last working day of the first full month of the semester. Actual deposits are paid on the last working business day of the month. All benefit deductions are taken at that time.
