Work Schedule : Schedule will vary based upon course offerings and student needs. This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours.

SUMMARY :

The Corequisite English Tutor is a multifaceted position focused on providing academic support, guidance, and mentorship to underserved students in the corequisite English class at Temple College. The tutor will work closely with the English faculty to coordinate programs which create a sense of belonging and foster academic success for students. The Corequisite English Tutor provides leadership and vision to the academic experience and fosters the holistic development of students. The tutor will actively serve as a content expert, mentor, and provide one-on-one support to students in the corequisite English class.

The Corequisite English Tutor will work with students in an online and / or face-to-face course. Tutors will work with faculty to design and implement supplemental materials for students.

  • This is a grant funded position that will end on or before Dec.19, 2025

Qualifications (Required and Preferred)

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS) :

A minimum of 12 hours in English courses with a grade of at least a B, as well as possess any combination of experience and education that would produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

PREFERRED :

Prior tutoring experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will :

  • Work with students in one-on-one and small group settings to provide academic support in English co-requisite coursework.
  • Assist students with developing writing skills and understanding course content.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to students on assignments and coursework.
  • Work collaboratively with the professor to develop and implement supplemental materials to support student learning.
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
  • Communicate regularly with the professor to stay informed about student progress and course expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT :

    Primarily light physical activity is required with occasional lifting and manipulation of objects up to 25 pounds. Keyboarding and computer use. Use of audio / visual devices.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Work is normally performed in an office setting during normal college hours of operation; however, some evenings and weekends may be required.

    WORK SCHEDULE :

    Schedule will vary based upon course offerings and student needs.

  • PAYROLL : Employees are paid by direct deposit through the last working day of the month. Wages for 16-week semesters are paid evenly over four months, and eight-week semesters are paid evenly over two months, with the first deposit occurring on the last working day of the first full month of the semester. Actual deposits are paid on the last working business day of the month. All benefit deductions are taken at that time.
