Position Summary & Essential Duties

The following duties and responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Provost/Vice President, Academic Affairs and Student Services, the incumbent manages the administrative functions of and provides instructional leadership and strategic guidance for the assigned division including the supervision of the division’s departmental chairs. The dean acts to further the institution's goals and priorities as defined by the College’s strategic plan.
The Dean creates and maintains clear curricular paths to career and/or transfer, supporting program growth, and the development of faculty and staff in meeting the College's student success priorities. The Dean is an important liaison for the College with business and industry partners, transfer partners, K-12 educators, government officials, grant agencies, and private funders. This position has college-wide responsibilities that require travel between campuses and businesses.

Qualifications (Required and Preferred)

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Master's degree from an accredited college in one of the following: Business, Criminal Justice, Computer Information Science, or related discipline;
  • Five years of teaching experience at the collegiate level;
  • Three years’ experience with demonstrated competence in an administrative role in higher education or equivalent setting;
  • And industry and/or business experience that is relevant to one or more of the division’s academic programs and local employers.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Community college experience and online education experience preferred.

CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES:
Valid Texas Driver License

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Broad Functions:


  • Provide strategic guidance and vision for the Business and Career Professions Division
  • Develop and maintain business, community, and educational partnerships
  • Promote the division through external networking, speaking engagements, and participation in college-wide meetings
  • Assist Department Chairs in the management of departmental budgets including the coordination of annual proposals for budget increases and/or reallocations
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the Provost/Vice President, Academic Affairs and Student Services

Academic:
  • Manage and coordinate instructional activities at all college locations, including off-campus locations
  • Make recommendations regarding curricular additions, deletions, or revisions to the Provost/Vice President, Academic Affairs and Student Services and the College Curriculum Committee
  • Facilitate a safe and comfortable work and learning environment for faculty, staff and students
  • Encourage and support implementation of teaching activities that promote learning-centered education
  • Facilitate curriculum and program development, implementation, and review while working with divisional faculty and staff
  • Assist chairs and faculty in systematically evaluating academic programs and services utilizing learning assessment data, completion data, transfer data, and enrollment data to formulate and implement continuous improvement plans utilizing best practices
  • Attend academic program advisory committee meetings and ensure meaningful feedback is solicited and documented in meeting minutes
  • Manage and coordinate accreditation processes and reviews
  • Oversee the division's academic schedules
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of articulation plans with various colleges, universities, and secondary schools, including the approval of course equivalencies
  • Balance faculty and student concerns during grievance processes
  • Assist with the Division's compliance with requirements for accrediting and licensing bodies

Personnel:
  • Meet with Department Chairs in the division on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Advise the Provost/Vice President, Academic Affairs and Student Services concerning personnel matters
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of adjunct instructors working with the faculty and program chairs
  • Ensure the orientation of new faculty and adjuncts and provide mentorship
  • Develop and coordinate professional growth and development plans for faculty.
  • Manage payroll, leave requests, and attendance of employees to ensure classroom and office coverage during operating hours
  • Assist with annual performance review of department chairs, faculty, and staff in accordance with institutional policies and procedures

Institutional Leadership:
  • Develop and maintain long range planning activities in the division that include crafting a vision to sustain and continue the growth and innovation of the Division
  • Build positive interpersonal relationships and employ effective management skills to sustain a student-centered culture at the College.
  • Set the example for trust and transparency across the College, and exhibit integrity and ethics in leadership and decision-making.
  • Provide clear, constructive, and supportive feedback within the College's performance management processes and collaborate for continued improvement.
  • Develop internal and external relationships that advocate for students, the College, and in the community.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and implementation, resource development and allocation, personnel and faculty development, management, and initiation of change
  • Knowledge of and experience with a range of instructional delivery modalities
  • knowledge of current concepts in administration of instructional programs
  • Strong understanding of academic versus workforce curriculum

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light physical activity is required with occasional lifting of objects up to 15 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office setting.
  • Duties may require travel in personal or school owned vehicles.
  • The Dean may be required to work outside of normal college hours to support workforce relationships and college initiatives.

  • 12-month, 40 hours per week
  • Commensurate with education and experience
