SUMMARY:
The Nursing Student Success Coach collaborates with the nursing faculty and staff to facilitate student success for all students enrolled in the Associate Degree and Vocational Nursing programs by providing academic assistance. The Nursing Student Success Coach works with students who seek assistance and coordinates with nursing faculty that refer students for additional academic support.
Qualifications (Required and Preferred)
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):
Master's Degree in Nursing
PREFERRED:
Master's Degree in Nursing Education or experience in nursing education
CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES:
Registered Nurse with current Texas license with no stipulations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will:
- Collaborate with nursing faculty to identify at risk students early in order to facilitate timely interventions and work together to develop strategies for improved student learning.
- Providing personalized academic guidance, study skills development, and targeted tutoring for students struggling with course material.
- Participates in new student orientation, as applicable.
- Coordinates and/or conducts individual and group study sessions/workshops
- Makes referrals for academic support services including the Writing Center, Math tutorial Lab, or for accommodations. Makes referrals to Financial Aid and the Circle of Support for non-academic barriers to success.
- Tracking student progress, identifying trends, and using data to inform program improvements aimed at increasing student success.
- Attends departmental and committee meetings and supports the faculty in developing departmental policies regarding student success.
- Providing resources and guidance to help students prepare for the NCLEX licensing exam.
- Implementing strategies to encourage student engagement, foster a positive learning environment, and address potential barriers to graduation.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities & Physical Demands
KNOWLEDGE:
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, mental health, and other nursing specialties relevant to the curriculum.
- Understanding of program learning outcomes, grading criteria, and academic policies.
- Awareness of common challenges faced by nursing students, including time management, test anxiety, stress management, and balancing work/life demands.
- Knowledge of test taking and study skills
SKILLS:
- Clearly explaining complex concepts, providing constructive feedback, and communicating effectively with students, faculty, and other support staff.
- Collaborating with students to find solutions to academic or personal obstacles.
- Guiding students in developing effective time management strategies to balance study demands and clinical rotations.
- Teaching students effective learning techniques like note-taking, test preparation, and self-assessment.
- Interpreting data to identify areas for improvement and implement targeted interventions.
ABILITIES:
- Ability to manage multiple student cases, track progress, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to build rapport with students, actively listen to their concerns, and provide empathetic support.
- Ability to address student challenges and make referrals if necessary
- The individual must also possess the ability to work as a member of a team.
- Maintaining student privacy and respecting their personal circumstances.
- Continuously updating knowledge on current nursing practices, teaching methods, and student support strategies.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light physical activity that may include lifting, pushing, pulling of objects up
to 15 pounds.

Work is normally performed in an interior/office work environment.
