Position Summary & Essential Duties

The following duties and responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Community Programs and the Dean, Workforce and Continuing Education the incumbent will interact with camp participants, parents, faculty, and staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for campers while fostering a positive learning environment.

Qualifications (Required and Preferred)

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):
High school diploma or equivalent

PREFERRED:
Current CPR and First Aid certification
Prior experience working with children (e.g., babysitting, tutoring, coaching, mentoring) and knowledge of their changing needs.

CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES:
Valid Texas Driver License or the ability to obtain one

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will:


  • Support summer camp programming and engage campers in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including sports, arts and crafts, games, and educational workshops.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times by closely monitoring activities, enforcing rules, and implementing emergency procedures as needed.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing daily camp schedules and activities in collaboration with the Coordinator, Community Programs and fellow staff members.
  • Foster positive relationships with campers, parents, and fellow staff members by demonstrating professionalism, excellent communication skills, and a friendly demeanor.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers, promoting teamwork, respect, inclusivity, and cooperation throughout all camp activities.
  • Support campers with special needs or individualized accommodations, as required, to ensure their full participation and enjoyment of the camp experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in camp facilities and activity areas, including setup and cleanup before and after each activity session.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities as required.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as registration and check-in, tracking attendance, completing incident reports, and providing feedback on camp operations to camp leadership.

  • Staff members must be able to communicate effectively with others to ensure a well-coordinated camp experience. Display empathy and positive regard for others in written, verbal, and non-verbal exchanges.

  • Understand the needs of campers and respond with care and encouragement.
  • Be friendly and collegial with co-workers, campers, parents, faculty, students, staff, and visitors to the campus.
  • Build trusting relationships by acting with integrity, courtesy, and responsibility, even in the face of stress or demanding workplace conditions.
  • Maintain proficiency as needed and approved by attending trainings, reading job-related materials, and meeting with others in area of responsibility.
  • Dress appropriately for a workplace with frequent customer service interaction and community outreach.
  • Meet all required standards of confidentiality. Keep work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Prior experience working with children (e.g. babysitting, tutoring, coaching, mentoring) and knowledge of their changing needs.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and methods including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

SKILLS:
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and conflict resolution skills
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Organizational and planning skills.

ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and engage campers in a positive and inclusive manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing work environment and adapt to different situations quickly.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the camp season.
  • Ability to participate in camp staff orientation and debriefing sessions.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty, staff, and customers of the college.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with both children and adults.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work as a team and individually, displaying strong personal accountability.
  • Ability to work autonomously, proactively anticipate, and solve problems, with minimal supervision and oversight.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Ability to pass a background check.


PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light physical activity that may include lifting, pushing, pulling of objects up to 25 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a seasonal (summer) position. Hours will vary based upon camp offerings. Must have day time, and weekday availability. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person.

Schedule to be determined by Coordinator, Community Programs and Dean, Workforce and Continuing Education.

HOURS REQUIRED PER WEEK:
Up to 40 per week, but will vary based upon camp offerings
