Hours: Part-time – 10-16 hours per week, flexible, but regular schedule with occasional weekends, evenings & holidays.
Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Person to join our team. We are looking for a reliable, skilled maintenance worker to perform cleaning, essential upkeep tasks throughout our facility and to provide setup and clean-up for events. In this position, you will be responsible for a wide variety of activities such as cleaning, facility maintenance, minor repairs and grounds maintenance to ensure that our synagogue and grounds are both tidy and functional. Being reliable and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail is essential in this job, as the ideal candidate will have facility maintenance experience and some technical knowledge. You should have the manual dexterity and physical stamina necessary for this work.
Supervision: The Maintenance Staff will report directly to the Temple Administrator
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Keeping the building clean: washing all floors (including spot clean carpets), walls and counters, waxing floors if necessary, cleaning windows, vacuuming carpets, emptying trash, cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, dusting, wiping down equipment (including chairs, tables, toys, blackboards, etc), and cleaning all kitchen appliances. This includes upstairs and in the school downstairs.
- Perform necessary cleaning activities, such as vacuuming, dusting, mopping, dishwashing, trash removal, compost removal, etc.
- Take recycling to the recycling center on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
- Disinfect and sanitize commonly used items including all bathrooms (toilets, sinks, mopping bathroom and kitchen floor), kitchen appliances, desks, light switches, door handles, etc.
- Restock toilet paper, paper towels, tissues and soap in the bathroom and maintain inventory of paper goods (paper towels, tissues and toilet paper) and cleaning materials/chemicals and inform the Temple Administrator when products are needed.
- Perform minor yard upkeep and trimming, collecting trash on our grounds, and removing debris, leaves and snow from the ramp and stairs and notifying Temple Administrator of areas that need more attention.
- Snow shoveling and ice removal from stairs and pathways as needed including distribution of sand and salt.
- Perform minor fixes, such as repairing broken locks, damage to walls, etc. Identify areas that require professional repair or maintenance and notify Temple Administrator.
- Complete regular maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, hanging pictures, setting light timers, replacing the air filters in the dehumidifiers, defrosting the freezer, etc.
- Inspect the building regularly (including monitoring the school for water damage/flooding) and troubleshoot various equipment and systems.
- Maintain clean storage spaces including organizing storage and janitorial closets.
- Implement procedures regarding proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals. For example, disposing of old paint and LED light bulbs.
- Event/Holiday related: setting up and breaking down tables and chairs for an active building with events including set-ups meetings, religious school, and setting the sanctuary (and additional rooms) for religious services and holiday programs. This includes cleaning before and after the event, sometimes setting up tents, chairs and tables outside. Additional time may be required for assistance during synagogue events and use of the facilities by the local community in which one will be compensated. For non-synagogue-sponsored events, the Facility and Maintenance worker will be paid directly by the individual(s) hosting the event.
- Report to Temple Administrator regarding issues resolved, those needing attention, and those currently in progress.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Maintenance and cleaning experience. Use of basic hand tools and minor repair ability
- Must be able to pass a National Criminal Background Check
- Communicate with supervisors and staff in a professional manner
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently and take a sense of pride in job performance
- Must be able to interact with the patrons and carry themselves in a proper public manner
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Must be able to work occasional weekends, evenings and holidays.
