ABOUT US:
The Jewish Community Centre of Sharon, Inc., also known as Temple Israel (“TI”) is located in Sharon, Massachusetts. We are a thriving suburb with a substantial Jewish population midway between Boston and Providence RI. TI is a vibrant Conservative Jewish community of about 475 families with a Jewish religious school and a highly successful and growing preschool.

This position will report to the Executive Director, working closely with the current custodial team, all office staff and engaging with congregants.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform and oversee maintenance of building and grounds of Temple Israel. Building maintenance is included, but not limited to painting, hanging pictures, cleaning gutters, snow removal, etc.
- Meet on a regular basis with the Executive Director to discuss needed maintenance. Communicate with the custodial team and recommend any repair or replacement of equipment.
- Expected to independently, make frequent inspections of the building and grounds. Check buildings for safety, security, cleanliness, and fire hazards; determine and report the need for service and/or repair to the Executive Director and custodial team.
- Understand and follow safety procedures as required by the town. Perform job tasks in accordance with safety and health procedures (Covid) as required by Temple Israel.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of the building. This includes, but is not limited to sweeping, mopping, washing, and buffing floors; vacuuming carpets, dusting, and cleaning furniture, shelves, walls, doors, and equipment; collecting and disposing of building trash; cleaning restrooms and replenishing restroom supplies; washing glass areas including windows, changing light bulbs.
- Required and be able to lift and move tables, chairs, and other materials and furniture.
- Operate cleaning equipment and be proficient in the use of hand tools and/or power tools in the performance of these tasks.
- Set up and take down or re-arrange furniture and electrical equipment for meetings, programs, and events.
- Accept vendor deliveries and distribute received items to the appropriate areas of the building.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of storage areas i.e. return supplies, tools, and equipment to their designated places after each use.
- Maintain supplies, communicate shortages to custodial team and replenish as needed.
- Regularly communicate with and provide outstanding service to congregants and office staff.
- Required to use industrial cleaning equipment and products.
- Performs related duties as required with a positive attitude and friendly manner.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
- 1 year of building maintenance and custodial services experience, preferred including use and repair of maintenance/custodial-related equipment.
- Self-motivated, observant, organized and can work independently.
- Able to be flexible and work with interruptions in a positive manner and in an environment with several staff, students, and congregants often present in the building/grounds.
- Able to use logical reasoning principles to arrive at a solution to work related problems for which no established procedures exist.
- Hands-on experience with cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Working knowledge and experience with the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in providing effective custodial service.
- Working knowledge to perform work duties following appropriate safety procedures and practices.
- Working knowledge of the procedures followed in ordering, storing, and accounting for building custodial and maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Required to lift up to 75 pounds solely & safely.
- This position requires standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Duties range from light physical to heavy tasks. Work includes use of chemicals, exposure to debris and dust, and other uncomfortable conditions. Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
- This position requires performing proper bending, squatting, stretching, pushing, climbing, dragging, and pulling.
- Successful CORI & SORI Check required.
- Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
SALARY & BENEFITS - This is a part-time position. Flexible hours/some weekends required. We offer paid time off on an accumulated scale, including paid sick time.
HOURS: Part-time – 20 hours/week. Candidates must be flexible to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
