Bookkeeper Position
Temple Israel is a congregation of approximately 300 families that is part of the Union for Reform Judaism. We are a Temple Family, who seeks to engage its members in meaningful Jewish expression and community.
Overall Responsibilities
The Bookkeeper is responsible for paying invoices, recording deposits, and reporting financial data for Temple Israel. This position is an integral part of the Temple Israel staff and works closely as part of our team; the individual filling this role will present a positive image of Temple Israel with congregants, vendors, and others.
Job Description:
This position will work under the direction of the Staff Accountant and will complete the following duties:
Bookkeeping-
- Prepare bank deposits, record in membership accounting system.
- Record invoices and prepare checks for payment in the accounting system.
- Prepare monthly member statements for mailing.
- Prepare miscellaneous invoices.
- Process credit card and ACH dues and donation payments.
- Prepare year-end donor receipts.
- Prepare year-end information for 1099s.
- Prepare miscellaneous accounting and membership reports as requested.
- Prepare monthly journal vouchers.
- Assist with year-end accounting analysis for Annual Review.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliation.
- Prepare reports for Finance Committee and attend monthly meetings.
- Verify proper paperwork of vendors is maintained and up to date.
Organizational Support-
- Collect RSVPs and payment for events and dinners as requested.
- Attend other meetings as requested.
- Assist with holidays and events when called upon.
- Work as an integral part of the Temple Israel staff in all aspects of supporting the Team as necessary.
Administrative Support-
- Phone and front office backup.
- Filing as needed.
- Compilation of mailings.
- Update and distribute weekly email
- Update events and services on Temple Israel website
- Schedule off-duty police officers for event security
- Schedule cleaning and custodial services
- Any other duties as requested.
