What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at Templeton Tennis Ranch?
We are seeking a vigilant and responsible Pool Lifeguard to ensure the safety of swimmers and guests at our aquatic facility. As a lifeguard, you will be responsible for monitoring the pool area, enforcing safety rules, preventing accidents, and responding swiftly to emergencies. This role requires strong swimming skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Prioritize water safety for all pool visitors, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment.
- Monitor and supervise the pool area, observing swimmers and taking quick action to prevent or respond to accidents.
- Respond to emergency situations, including water rescues, first aid, and CPR when necessary.
- Maintain constant vigilance and ensure safe behavior by all pool guests.
- Communicate with pool visitors, staff, and management regarding safety rules, pool regulations, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain clear and accurate incident reports, as well as logs of any unusual events or accidents.
- Regularly inspect pool area, equipment, and facilities for safety hazards, cleanliness, and maintenance needs.
- Assist in the setup, breakdown, housekeeping, and general maintenance of pool equipment as needed.
- Report to the Templeton Tennis Ranch management during shifts and provide support throughout the pool deck as needed.
- Lifeguards work under the general direction of the Aquatic Director.
Qualifications:
- Ability to maintain focus and respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Love to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on safety.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with pool guests and staff.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and demonstrate leadership in an emergency.
- Can commit to a minimum of 1 summer and at least 3 shifts per week.
- Ability to lift, hold, and/or move equipment or individuals in distress up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
- Lifeguard certification is required, which we offer in house on May 9-11. Participants need to be at least 15 years old and pass a prerequisite skill evaluation.
Compensation & Shift:
- Pay starts at $19 per hour, with opportunities for increases based on experience, hours, and performance.
- Mandatory in-service training will be held: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 3 - 5 pm -- Friday, June 20, 2025 from 9-11 am -- Friday, August 1, 2025 from 9 - 11 am
- Shifts are 4-8 hours during the summer season, and less in the off season. Applicants must be able to work 3-5 shifts per week during peak season.
- Consistent attendance and reliability are key for building trust within the team and ensuring safety.
- As an added incentive for the upcoming lifeguard course, Templeton Tennis Ranch will make arrangements to reimburse any individual for their course registration and certificate fees up to $240, if; they reach out to TTR prior to the start of the course, are then hired as a Lifeguard, and then complete a minimum of 100 hours of work as a Lifeguard at TTR.
Additional Requirements:
- Background check clearance.
- Willingness to undergo additional training.
- Employment conditional on obtaining Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- We’re offering a lifeguard course on the following dates at the TTR: May 9: 4pm - 8 or 9 pm -- May 10: Saturday 8 am - 4pm -- May 11: Sunday 8 am - 4pm
This is a short-term/temporary position. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
