The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Manager at Tempus is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and management of an MSL team to support the company’s mission of advancing precision medicine. The MSL Manager is accountable for ensuring the team is adequately staffed, trained and clear on the expectations of their role in the execution of their medical plan. They are responsible for ensuring the MSL stakeholder engagement plans are robust and focused on understanding the stakeholder’s scientific needs in alignment with key medical objectives. They are also responsible for developing and executing strategies to engage with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders within their area. This role requires a deep understanding of oncology, molecular biology, and the healthcare landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of MSLs to ensure effective communication and collaboration with healthcare professionals and KOLs.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to support the dissemination of scientific information and data related to Tempus’ products and services.
- Establish and maintain relationships with KOLs, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to support clinical and scientific objectives.
- Oversee the development and delivery of scientific presentations, publications, and other educational materials.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clinical development, marketing, and sales, to support product launches and other initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze industry trends, competitive intelligence, and scientific advancements to inform strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements in the dissemination of scientific information.
- Represent Tempus at scientific conferences, meetings, and other events.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, DO, or DNP) in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., oncology, molecular biology, genetics).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Medical Science Liaison or other relevant medical role, and/or at least 2 years in a relevant managerial or leadership position in industry is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of oncology, molecular biology, and the healthcare landscape.
- Solid tumor oncology therapeutic knowledge or expertise.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with KOLs and other stakeholders.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Working knowledge of genomic laboratory-developed testing (LDT) and familiarity with CLIA-88’, CAP guidelines
- Working knowledge in vitro diagnostic (IVD) regulatory guidelines from the FDA (21 CFR Part 809, CFR Part 820, 21 CFR Part 807, 21 CFR Part 812, 21 CFR Part 814) and Sunshine Act (2013)
- Ability to travel (up to 50%)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in precision medicine or personalized healthcare.
- Familiarity with data analytics and artificial intelligence in healthcare.
- Prior people management experience is strongly preferred.
