What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mobile Service Technician position at Ten-8 Fire & Safety?
SUMMARY: The Mobile Service Technician is responsible for repairing and maintaining vehicles within the Aftermarket function. The Mobile Service Technician performs skilled work in maintaining automotive, medium, and heavy-duty trucks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Repair boom lifts, scissor lifts, construction forklifts, various equipment, and vehicles in an accurate and timely manner.
- Understand the electrical and hydraulic schematics to be able to complete the repairs correctly and safely.
- Assist other technicians with maintenance and ensure to comply by safety regulations.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance programs (A, B, C, etc.) as outlined by county, local, state, and national standards. Change filters (oil, fuel, air), lube, service batteries, cooling systems, change oil, check tires for air pressure and wear, etc.
- Present a complete and detailed tentative schedule for the following week to the Service Manager, every week.
- Schedule all work to make the most efficient use of travel time and minimize multiple trips to one location.
- Keep all customer appointments, as scheduled. Contact the Service Manager and the customer, in advance, about any delays.
- Complete all previously scheduled work before any last-minute customer requests to the vehicle. Contact the Service Manager to schedule any additional work. The exception is when the truck is out of service.
- Complete a Mobile Service Form, signed by customer and service technician, prior to leaving the customer location, for each job completed.
- On a nightly basis, document, and fax paperwork to corporate office for all received shipments of parts and materials.
- On a weekly basis, preferably on a Wednesday, return all the parts that are replaced.
- Maintain all Ten-8 equipment in a clean and working order condition.
- Inform Service Manager of any needed replacements.
- Responsible for maintaining the inventory on the Ten-8 service vehicle.
- Report all vehicle accidents or injuries to the Service Manager immediately.
- Keep a daily log of events and turn it into the Service Manager at the end of the month.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to create standard correspondence both written and verbal. Ability to work from oral and written instructions.
- Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service lifts and other equipment.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
LANGUAGE WRITING SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to create standard correspondence. Proficient verbal communication skills, in English, are required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of operating principles and maintenance of gasoline and diesel-powered engines.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics, algebra, and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variances in standardized specifications.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.
- Skill in using a variety of standard hand tools, machines, and power equipment.
- Ability to operate vehicles common to repair orders.
- Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, overtime, standby, call out or shift.
- Ability to operate volt and OHM meter, bench grinder, cutting tools, small hand tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to operate welding ARC and OXY/ACE.
- Ability to attend job training, as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Lifting 100 lbs. maximum with assistance and frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
- Sitting 10%, standing 70% and walking 20%.
· WORK CONDITIONS: Spends approximately 75% of the time outdoors.
