PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF A PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT (PTA):
- Work requires frequently lifting and carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
- Work requires regularly lifting and carrying objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
- Work requires occasionally performing one-person transfers of patients weighing up to 125 pounds who are stable and able to assist.
- Work requires occasionally participating in the transfer of patients weighing up to 175 pounds who cannot assist, are unstable, or are unpredictable. Patients weighing over 180 pounds should be transferred with a mechanical device when unable to effectively participate in transfer.
- Work requires frequently stooping and bending, pushing and pulling, reaching above the shoulder, sitting, standing, walking, grasping and fine motor manipulation with the hands, proofreading and checking documents for accuracy, and use of computer systems.
Physical Therapy Assistant ( PTA ) Job Summary:
The Physical Therapist Assistant ( PTA ) performs patient related activities under the direction of a physical therapist. Services may include but are not limited to purposeful activities or interventions to maximize the independence and the maintenance of health of any individual who is limited by a physical injury or illness, a cognitive impairment, a psychosocial dysfunction, a mental illness, a developmental or learning disability, or an adverse environmental condition.
Physical Therapy Assistant ( PTA ) Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assisting the physical therapist when performing tests, evaluation and complex treatment procedures
- Observing, recording and reporting to the therapist the condition, reactions and responses related to assigned duties
- Assisting the therapist in consulting with patients, family members and other health care professionals as appropriate
- Assisting with the care of the physical therapy department and equipment
- Assisting the physical therapist with in-service programs and other meetings as assigned
Physical Therapy Assistant ( PTA ) Required Education and Experience:
- Must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant ( PTA ) in the appropriate state
- Prior experience in Physical Therapy, preferred
- Prior experience in Skilled Nursing, preferred
