Summary: Repairs/rebuilds various types of rotating equipment for our customers, including but not limited to submersible pumps, vertical turbines, end-suction pumps, split-case pumps, horizontal multi-stage pumps, rotary lobe pumps, gear pumps, etc. Maintains the quality of service at a high level in support of the company’s sales efforts.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs various types of rotating equipment.
  • Determines cause of pump failure by disassembling and evaluating parts.
  • Determines what replacement parts are needed to repair pump.
  • Uses tools and instruments for diagnosis.
  • Troubleshoots electric motors by using a multimeter, amp meter, or motor analyzer
  • Measures parts using calipers, micrometers, and other instruments.
  • Assembles new pumps, following engineering drawings and bill of materials.
  • Tests pumps hydraulically and electrically.
  • Actively seeks to learn about different types of pumps and their applications.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. 
  • Assists with repairs at customers’ sites; adhere to customer safety rules and policies.
  • Drives and safely operates company-owned vehicle/service truck.
  • Establish a work schedule in coordination with the Service Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.



Specialty Skills:

  • Must have experiencing working on submersible pumps with 3 phase motors 
  • Diagnosing & testing electrical motors from 1hp to 450hp
  • Proficient with voltages ranging from 115V single phase to 480v 3 phase
  • Mechanic seal installs & pressure testing
  • Bearing configuration ranging from single row to duplex arrangement
  • Ability to read micrometers, dial indicators, calibers & other assorted measuring tools
  • Hydraulic impellers, wear rings & clearances
  • Multi-testers for testing motors and sensors
  • Proficient with wiring motors & sensors
  • Panel testing, panel wiring and trouble shooting
  • Able to read and understand electrical schismatics
  • Understand manuals & drawings for disassembly, assembly and testing

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 5 years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Proven ability to successfully troubleshoot.
  • Experience repairing pumps, valves, and motors is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics.
  • Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, the integrity and functionality of system components, and the environment may affect performance.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to adhere to stringent safety requirements and customers’ work rules.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to project a professional image and form trusting relationships.



Language Skills: Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.


Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform basic mathematical equations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, use of whole numbers, and percentage and decimals.


Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and internet software knowledge.


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Must have a valid driver’s license with 0-5 points per VA DMV.


Equipment Operated: Forklift, hoist, crane, hand tools, power tools, drills, band saw, drill press, lathe mills, and other equipment deemed necessary to fulfill the job’s functions.

Must be able to exert force over 100 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds frequently; climb, balance, stop, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include being able to accommodate/adjusting the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus and maintain a good field of vision, observing an area that can be seen up or down or right or left while eyes are fixed in a given point.
  • Must be able to meet the standards outlined in the WorkSteps program satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to fulfill all essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
