TITLE: Associate Director of Accounting – General Fund
REPORTS TO: Controller
DEPARTMENT Accounting Department
STATUS: Regular, Full-Time, Exempt
LOCATION: 145 Taylor; Hybrid
WAGE RANGE: $135,000 - $150,000/year
SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Controller, the Associate Director of Accounting – General Fund is responsible for assisting the Controller in overseeing the financial management and reporting of the General Fund of TNDC. This position ensures compliance with accounting standards, internal policies and regulatory requirements while developing and implementing operational efficiencies. This position is responsible for the supervision of a staff of five.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Oversee and manage the accounting functions of the General Fund, including accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Prepare and review financial statements (including consolidated financials), ensuring accuracy and compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable laws, and regulations.

Develop and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures, to safeguard company assets and ensure adherence to accounting best practices.

Manage cashflow, monitor banking activities and establish effective relationships with financial institutions.

Manage the month end and year-end close processes for the General Fund

Collaborate with external auditors and consultants during financial audits, ensuring the timely completion of necessary audits and filings.

Prepare required regulatory annual filings.

Continuously improve accounting systems, processes, and procedures, to enhance productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.

Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Stay updated on industry standards, accounting regulations and changes in accounting practices, ensuring compliance, and recommending necessary adjustments to accounting policies and procedures.

Perform other accounting department duties that may be assigned by the Controller when appropriate and needed.
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field (CPA preferred)

7 years of corporate accounting experience with progressive supervisory experience, preferably in affordable housing or non-profit organizations

Strong knowledge of GAAP and Fund Accounting

Knowledge of account analysis and financial statement preparation

Proficiency in PC based accounting software programs and in spreadsheet (MS Excel) applications. Experience with Yardi, preferred.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Organized and able to effectively manage multiple projects and duties.

Demonstrated ability to meet established deadlines.
