The Tech I Mechanic is an entry-level fleet maintenance position for individuals with at least two years of experience as a mechanic or recent graduates from a diesel technical school . This role requires fundamental knowledge of truck, vehicle, trailer, and equipment maintenance, including performing basic repairs, servicing components, and assisting senior mechanics. The Tech I Mechanic is expected to work independently on routine tasks while continuously developing skills for advancement.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on automobiles, diesel engines, trailers, loaders, forklifts, and skid steers.
- Conduct fluid checks, oil and antifreeze extraction for analysis, and lubrication of equipment according to specifications.
- Inspect, replace, and maintain belts, filters, hoses, tires, and other basic components .
- Operate fleet equipment at a basic level as needed for maintenance and repairs.
- Use basic hand tools properly and maintain them in good condition.
- Locate and follow repair procedures in trade manuals.
- Maintain parts inventory , assist with ordering, and support shop organization.
- Assist Tech II and Tech III Mechanics with more complex repairs and diagnostics.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment following all safety protocols.
- Complete work order repairs using a computer or tracking system.
- Work collaboratively as part of the fleet maintenance team, demonstrating strong communication and teamwork skills .
