Legal Assistant
Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct
The Board of Judicial Conduct is seeking a full-time legal assistant to assist in legal and administrative matters as determined by the Board. The Board of Judicial Conduct is the state agency responsible for investigating and deciding ethics matters involving the state’s judges. The Board consists of 16 members from across the state, Disciplinary Counsel, and Assistant Disciplinary Counsel.
General Description: The legal assistant will provide legal and administrative assistance to the Board and its attorneys through:
(1) recording and processing complaints and other documents received by the Board;
(2) tracking the progression of cases to ensure all deadlines are met;
(3) answering the phone and handling inquiries/questions from the public;
(4) managing the mail and other clerical and administrative tasks;
(5) preparing statistical reports;
(6) maintaining records and files pertaining to cases;
(7) drafting correspondence;
(8) scheduling and coordinating Board and other meetings;
(9) assisting with legal research;
(10) assisting in preparing presentations for use at legal seminars, conferences, or other events; and
(11) assisting with other matters as directed by the Board and staff. Work will be performed under the supervision of Disciplinary Counsel. The position is located in Nashville, Tennessee. A hybrid work schedule is a possibility following a sixty-day training and probationary period.
Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· Ability to maintain confidentiality due to the confidential nature of the Board’s work
· Ability to function well under tight deadlines
· Prepare clear, thorough, and professional written work products
· Conduct electronic legal research
· Proficiency in computer and word processing skills
· The ideal candidate will have a warm, polite, and professional presence in person and over the phone as he or she will be the first point of contact for judges and members of the public who contact the Board.
Minimum Qualifications: The legal assistant must have one of the following from a college, university, or professional school: (1) an Associate Degree in paralegal or legal assistant studies; (2) a Bachelor’s Degree in paralegal or legal assistant studies; (3) a Paralegal Certificate; or (4) equivalent work experience in a law firm or other legal environment.
This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you will be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.
