Tennessee Associated Electric is seeking an energetic and self-motivated Outside Sales Representative to join our team. In this role, you will drive business growth by cultivating relationships with new customers and expanding partnerships with existing clients within an assigned territory. As an Outside Sales Rep, you will represent Tennessee Associated Electric’s full range of industrial repair services and distribution products while providing solutions to help customers achieve their goals.
This is a base salary plus commission position, providing the opportunity to grow your earnings as you grow your territory. A college degree in business, engineering, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience—is required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with both new and existing customers.
- Work across customer departments (maintenance, engineering, purchasing, and management) to provide tailored solutions.
- Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products and services to meet those needs.
- Drive revenue growth by setting and achieving sales targets, prospecting, and generating new leads.
- Conduct cold calls, networking, and market research to expand the customer base.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including management, operations, and support staff, to ensure smooth delivery of services.
- Utilize CRM tools to track sales activities and maintain up-to-date customer information.
- Prepare detailed quotes, proposals, and orders.
- Deliver technical presentations and product training sessions to customers.
- Participate in regular training sessions on company products, services, and industry best practices.
- Resolve customer issues related to quotes, orders, and technical inquiries promptly and effectively.
- Provide after-hours assistance for customer emergencies when necessary.
- Support company-wide initiatives such as annual inventory reviews.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience in industrial sales, technical sales, or customer service related to industrial products (e.g., electric motors, power systems, or electrical distribution).
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand technical products and systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CRM and ERP software.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Must be comfortable working in customer facilities, which may lack climate control.
- Daily travel within the assigned territory (3–6 hours of driving per day) with occasional overnight travel.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to manage time and projects independently.
