Essential Functions
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Continuous maintenance of building cleanliness as prescribed by supervisor.
- Sweep, mop, and buff corridors and floors.
- Vacuum carpets, wash windows, polish furniture, clean woodwork, clean water fountains.
- Empties trash containers and keep them clean and sanitized.
- Clean and disinfect bathroom walls, floors and fixtures.
- Replenish bathroom supplies.
- Minor maintenance activities on custodial equipment.
- Complete set-ups to support special events on campus.
- Assist with moving furniture, offices, and equipment.
- Clean building entrances and walks. This will include sweeping, litter pick-up and snow removal as necessary for entry safety and appearance.
- Maintain grounds, pick up paper and debris from grounds.
- Troubleshoot routine/minor maintenance and mechanical services.
- Inform supervisor and/or physical plant director of repairs that cannot be repaired in house.
- Meet with internal/external providers to establish repair and/or maintenance plan of action.
- Perform monthly checks of AED equipment and assist with safety and security drills.
- Serve on college committees.
- Participate in other college activities as assigned by Site Coordinator.
- Purchase small amounts of supplies and items needed to do minor repairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned including custodial actions for campus events.
- Assist in the identification of internal/external vendors in the region that provide effective service for the repair and/or maintenance of the facility.
Education, Training, and Experience Required:
- Successful completion of High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions on chemical cleaning labels and other oral and written instructions.
- Custodial experience in a similar environment.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment, i.e., floor machine, high-speed buffer and floor scrubber.
- Ability to operate equipment used in the maintenance of grounds such as mower, blower, trimmer, etc.
- Successful completion of an associate degree
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Prior work experience in an educational setting.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing fixtures.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and set priorities.
- Ability to work with diverse faculty, students and community members, and must be able to function effectively as a team member.
- Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in custodial and minor maintenance work.
- Knowledge of the use of technology such as email and window-based applications.
- Flexible working hours.
- Moderate standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting and pushing.
- Seasonal outside work.
- Exposure at times to cleaning chemicals and fumes.
- Daily exposure to blood borne pathogens.
